Abstract The Outer Solar System Origins Survey (OSSOS), a wide-field imaging program in 2013–2017 with the Canada–France–Hawaii Telescope, surveyed 155 deg 2 of sky to depths m r = 24.1–25.2. We present 838 outer solar system discoveries that are entirely free ephemeris bias. This increases inventory trans-Neptunian objects (TNOs) accurately known orbits by nearly 50%. Each minor planet has 20–60 Gaia /Pan-STARRS-calibrated astrometric measurements made over 2–5 oppositions, which allows...

We present results derived from the first multi-chord stellar occultations by transneptunian object (50000) Quaoar, observed on 2011 May 4 and 2012 February 17, a single-chord occultation October 15. If timing of five chords obtained in were correct, then Quaoar would possess topographic features (crater or mountain) that be too large for body this mass. An alternative model consists applying time shifts to some account possible errors. Satisfactory elliptical fits are possible, yielding an...

We propose that several short duration events observed in past stellar occultations by Chiron were produced rings material. From a reanalysis of the occultation data literature we determined two possible orientations pole Chiron's rings, with ecliptic coordinates l=(352+/-10) deg, b=(37+/-10) deg or l=(144+/-10) b=(24+/-10) . The mean radius is (324 +/- 10) km. One can use rotational lightcurve amplitude at different epochs to distinguish between solutions for pole. Both imply lower 2013...

Abstract On 2022 September 26, the Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART) spacecraft impacted Dimorphos, satellite of binary near-Earth asteroid (65803) Didymos. This demonstrated efficacy a kinetic impactor for planetary defense by changing orbital period Dimorphos 33 minutes. Measuring change relied heavily on coordinated campaign lightcurve photometry designed to detect mutual events (occultations and eclipses) as direct probe satellite’s period. Abstract The study of small (<300 m) near-Earth objects (NEOs) is important because they are more closely related than larger to the precursors meteorites that fall on Earth. Collisions these bodies with Earth also frequent. Although such collisions cannot produce massive extinction events, can still significant local damage.
