Modern sugarcanes are polyploid interspecific hybrids, combining high sugar content from Saccharum officinarum with hardiness, disease resistance and ratooning of spontaneum. Sequencing a haploid S. spontaneum, AP85-441, facilitated the assembly 32 pseudo-chromosomes comprising 8 homologous groups 4 members each, bearing 35,525 genes alleles defined. The reduction basic chromosome number 10 to in spontaneum was caused by fissions 2 ancestral chromosomes followed translocations chromosomes....
Accurate detection, genotyping and downstream analysis of genomic variants from high-throughput sequencing data are fundamental features in modern production pipelines for genetic-based diagnosis medicine or selection plant animal breeding. Our research group maintains the Next-Generation Sequencing Experience Platform (NGSEP) as a precise, efficient easy-to-use software solution these features.Understanding that incorrect alignments around short tandem repeats an important source errors, we...
Soybean is a common allergenic food; thus, comprehensive characterization of all the proteins that cause allergy crucial to development effective diagnostic and immunotherapeutic strategies. A cDNA library was constructed from seven stages developing soybean seeds investigate candidate allergens. We searched for cDNAs encoding seed-specific biotinylated protein (SBP) based on its allergenicity in boiled lentils. full-length clone retrieved expressed as 75.6-kDa His-tagged recombinant (rSBP)...
Recent developments in High Throughput Sequencing (HTS) technologies and bioinformatics, including improved read lengths genome assemblers allow the reconstruction of complex genomes with unprecedented quality contiguity. Sugarcane has one most complicated among grassess a haploid length 1Gbp ploidies between 8 12. In this work, we present assembly Colombian sugarcane hybrid CC 01-1940. Three types sequencing were combined for assembly: PacBio long reads, Illumina paired short Hi-C reads. We...
Abstract Premise Detecting single‐nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in a cost‐effective way is fundamental any plant breeding pipeline. Here, we compare three genotyping techniques for their ability to reproduce the allele dosage of SNPs interest sugarcane ( Saccharum spp.). Methods To identify reproducible technique estimate validation SNP markers, correlation between Flex‐Seq, kompetitive allele‐specific PCR (KASP), and genotyping‐by‐sequencing restriction site–associated DNA sequencing...
Abstract Sugarcane is a crucial crop for sugar and bioenergy production. Saccharose content total weight are the two main key commercial traits that compose sugarcane’s yield. These under complex genetic control their response patterns influenced by genotype-by-environment (G×E) interaction. An efficient breeding of sugarcane demands an accurate assessment genotype stability through multi-environment trials (METs), where genotypes tested/evaluated across different environments. However,...
Abstract Background Sucrose accumulation in sugarcane is affected by several environmental and genetic factors, with plant moisture being of critical importance for its role the synthesis transport sugars within cane stalks, affecting sucrose concentration. In general, rainfall high soil humidity during ripening stage promote growth, increasing fresh weight decreasing yield humid region Colombia. Therefore, this study aimed to identify markers associated or production environment Colombia...

Since program's kick-off, has focused on consolidating validating a multi-scale, multi-institutional, multi-disciplinary strategy infrastructure advance discoveries in plant science development new solutions for improving agricultural productivity sustainability. methods...
Sugarcane, a prominent global crop utilized for sugar, bioethanol, and renewable bioenergy production, holds significant importance in Colombia. In 2022, it contributed to the production of 2.1 million tons 347 liters 1745 GWh electrical energy. The cultivation sugarcane worldwide faces vulnerability drought stress induced by climate change, which significantly affects yields. Understanding how plants respond involves complex interactions among genes, morphology, physiology, biochemistry....
