This Letter reports results from the MINOS experiment based on its initial exposure to neutrinos Fermilab NuMI beam. The rates and energy spectra of charged current ${\ensuremath{\nu}}_{\ensuremath{\mu}}$ interactions are compared in two detectors located along beam axis at distances 1 735 km. With $1.27\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{20}$ 120 GeV protons incident target, 215 events with energies below 30 observed Far Detector, an expectation $336\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}14$...

We report results from the first search for νμ→νe transitions by NOvA experiment. In an exposure equivalent to 2.74×1020 protons on target in upgraded NuMI beam at Fermilab, we observe 6 events Far Detector, compared a background expectation of 0.99±0.11(syst) based Near Detector measurement. A secondary analysis observes 11 with 1.07±0.14(syst). The 3.3σ excess observed primary disfavors 0.1π<δCP<0.5π inverted mass hierarchy 90% C.L.Received 19 January...

This paper reports the first measurement using NOvA detectors of ${\ensuremath{\nu}}_{\ensuremath{\mu}}$ disappearance in a beam. The analysis uses 14 kton-equivalent exposure $2.74\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{20}$ protons-on-target from Fermilab NuMI Assuming normal neutrino mass hierarchy, we measure $\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Delta}}{m}_{32}^{2}=({2.52}_{\ensuremath{-}0.18}^{+0.20})\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{\ensuremath{-}3}\text{ }\text{ }{\mathrm{eV}}^{2}$ and...

The complete 5.4 kton MINOS far detector has been taking data since the beginning of August 2003 at a depth 2070 meters water-equivalent in Soudan mine, Minnesota. This paper presents first observations muon neutrino and anti-neutrino charged-current atmospheric interactions based on an exposure 418 days. ratio upward to downward-going events is compared Monte Carlo expectation absence oscillations giving: R_data(up/down)/R_MC(up/down) = 0.62^{+0.19}_{-0.14} (stat.) +- 0.02 (sys.). The science focal plane of the Large Synoptic Survey Telescope is made up 21 modules designated "raft towers". Each raft tower module (RTM) an autonomous, fully-testable and serviceable 144 Mpixel imager consisting nine highly-segmented CCDs with complete readout electronics chain. To minimize noise obscuration RTM housed in a compact enclosure fully contained within camera cryostat. required to meet strict performance goals for image flatness, speed, noise, power dissipation. Key components...

A new hardware trigger system based on tracks detected by a stereo drift chamber has been developed for the BABAR experiment at Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. The z0 pT Discriminator (ZPD) is capable of fast, 3-dimensional reconstruction charged particle tracks, and provides rejection background events due to beam particles interacting with pipe first-level trigger. Over 1 gigabyte data processed per second each ZPD module. Rapid track realized use latest-generation FPGAs.
