Home non-invasive ventilation (NIV) is a widely used treatment for chronic hypoventilation but little known on its impact in the elderly. In multicenter prospective cohort study, we studied tolerance and efficacy of domiciliary NIV patients aged 75 or more compared to younger ones.264 with at least six-month follow-up were analyzed. Among them, 82 elderly younger, found an improvement arterial blood gas, Epworth sleepiness scale Pittsburgh sleep quality index 6 months. Mean daily use months...
We tested the novel hypothesis that neutrophils in lung or airspaces may produce hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) ventilated patients with acute respiratory failure. Neutrophils were purified from blood and bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) fluid samples 16 mechanically who underwent BAL for a diagnostic workup of ventilator-acquired pneumonia. Most had pneumonia ( n = 11). Ten nonventilated served as controls. Both released HGF vitro. Basal secretion by controls was 823 (666) pg · ml −1 10 −7...
Non-invasive ventilation (NIV) improves survival of patients with chronic respiratory failure (CRF). Most often, pressure settings are made to normalize arterial blood gases. However, this objective is not always achieved due intolerance increased or poor compliance. Few studies have assessed the effect persistent hypercapnia on ventilated patients' survival. Data from Pays de la Loire Respiratory Health Research Institute cohort were analyzed answer question.
Lymphomatoid granulomatosis is a rare angiocentric and angiodestructive disease, which commonly involves the lungs but also brain, kidneys, liver skin. This report describes case of 33-yr-old female with an aggressive form lymphoid treated anti-CD20 antibody. Dramatic radiological improvement was seen at fourth week. However, patient died home 1 month after last rituximab administration from massive haemoptysis.
<h3>INTRODUCTION:</h3> Noninvasive ventilation (NIV) has been widely used to treat acute respiratory failure in obese patients. Criteria that could help clinicians decide whether they should continue use NIV after such an initial episode remain unclear. Our retrospective study aims analyze characteristics of subjects receiving long-term hospitalization for failure. <h3>METHODS:</h3> From January 2011 December 2012, 77 adults were admitted the ICU disease department Nantes University Hospital...
<h3>BACKGROUND:</h3> More and more patients have obesity-hypoventilation syndrome (OHS) because of the increasing prevalence obesity. The accuracy transcutaneous PCO2 (PtcCO2) has recently been validated. However, no study evaluated interest measuring systematically nocturnal PtcCO2 in follow-up with OHS home mechanical ventilation to detect residual hypoventilation. We aimed evaluate contribution assess hypoventilation...
Abstract Study Objectives Many studies have already looked at factors that may influence adherence to continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) (severity of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), patients’ age, technical aspects, socioeconomic factors, living conditions, psychological factors). Although it has been shown individuals’ preference for risky behaviors in daily life can the use care or drug therapies settings, this never tested OSA. This study aims analyze association between risk...
Abstract Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is expected to be the 3 rd leading cause of death worldwide by 2020. Despite improvements in survival using acute non-invasive ventilation (NIV) treat patients with exacerbations COPD complicated hypercapnic respiratory failure (AHRF), these are at high risk readmission and further life-threatening events, including death. Recent studies suggested that NIV home can reduce readmissions, but a small proportion patients, level expertise....
The number of patients treated with NIV at home for chronic respiratory failure (CRF) is steadily increasing. Historical indications long-term were unsettled by obesity hypoventilation syndrome (OHS) and obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) controversial results. Ten years after the results last major cohorts, we investigated both health-related quality life (HRQL) survival ventilated in a French area. HRQL was assessed 36-items Short-Form Health Survey (SF-36) baseline 12 months initiation....
The effectiveness of home NIV for chronic respiratory failure (CRF) is well established. However, little data available about its epidemiology. ANTADIR-GAV cohort aimed to prospectively analyze from patients initiated in France. <b>Methods:</b> Multicentric prospective observational study. Etiology CRF, demographic data, comorbidities, setting, arterial blood gases, type/parameters ventilator and interface were collected. <b>Results:</b> From 5/2015 12/2016, 964 (54% male, age 64±14 y, BMI...
