We analyzed reports for 59,073 contacts of 5,706 coronavirus disease (COVID-19) index patients reported in South Korea during January 20-March 27, 2020. Of 10,592 household contacts, 11.8% had COVID-19. 48,481 nonhousehold 1.9% Use personal protective measures and social distancing reduces the likelihood transmission.

We report the first 7,755 patients with confirmed COVID-19 in Korea as of March 12th, 2020. A total 66 deaths have been recorded, giving a case fatality proportion 0.9%. Older people, and those comorbidities were at higher risk fatal outcome. The highest number cases Daegu, followed by Gyeongbuk. This summary may help to understand disease dynamics early phase outbreaks, therefore, guide future public health measures.
