To identify the prevalence and clinical features of detrusor underactivity (DU) in elderly men women presenting with lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS).We reviewed 1,179 patients aged over 65 years who had undergone a urodynamic study for LUTS no neurological or anatomical conditions. DU was defined as bladder contractility index <100 maximal flow rate (Qmax) ≤12 ml/s combined pressure at Qmax ≤10 cmH(2)O women, respectively.Of patients, 40.2% 13.3% were classified having (p<0.001). Types...
Preeclampsia is one of the leading causes maternal and fetal morbidity mortality. Due to lack effective preventive measures, its prediction essential prompt management. This study aimed develop models using machine learning predict late-onset preeclampsia hospital electronic medical record data. The performance based conventional statistical methods were also compared. A total 11,006 pregnant women who received antenatal care at Yonsei University Hospital included. Maternal data retrieved...
The current study was carried out to investigate the in vitro effects of an 85% methanol extract dried Morus alba leaves on melanin biosynthesis, which is closely related hyperpigmentation. These extracts inhibited tyrosinase activity that converts dopa dopachrome biosynthetic process melanin. Mulberroside F (moracin M-6, 3'-di-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside), obtained after bioactivity-guided fractionation extracts, showed inhibitory and formation melan-a cells. This compound also exhibited...
We report the first 7,755 patients with confirmed COVID-19 in Korea as of March 12th, 2020. A total 66 deaths have been recorded, giving a case fatality proportion 0.9%. Older people, and those comorbidities were at higher risk fatal outcome. The highest number cases Daegu, followed by Gyeongbuk. This summary may help to understand disease dynamics early phase outbreaks, therefore, guide future public health measures.
Assessing long-term success and efficiency is an essential part of evaluating cancer control programs. The mortality-to-incidence ratio (MIR) can serve as insightful indicator management outcomes for individual nations. By calculating MIRs the top five cancers in Organization Economic Cooperation Development (OECD) countries, current study attempted to characterize national policies according health system ranking each country. The most burdensome globally (lung, colorectal, prostate,...
Stimuli-responsive nanoparticles (NPs) are especially interesting to enhance the drug delivery specificity for biomedical applications. With aim achieve a highly stable and inflammation-specific release, we designed reactive oxygen species (ROS)-responsive dextran–drug conjugate (Nap–Dex). By blending Nap–Dex with acid-sensitive acetalated dextran polymer, achieved dual-responsive NP high toward inflammatory environment. The environment not only has elevated ROS levels but also lower pH than...
Recessive dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa (RDEB) is a severe skin fragility disorder caused by loss-of-function mutations in the COL7A1 gene, which encodes type VII collagen (C7), protein that functions adherence. From 36 Korean RDEB patients, we identified total of 69 pathogenic (40 variants without recurrence), including point (72.5%) and insertion/deletion (27.5%). For fibroblasts from two patients (Pat1 Pat2), applied adenine base editors (ABEs) to correct mutation or bypass premature...

Propionibacterium acnes (P. acnes) has been known to produce various exogenous proteases, however, their role in acne pathogenesis remains largely unknown. Proteases elicit cellular responses, at least part, via proteinase-activated receptor-2 (PAR-2), which is mediate inflammation and immune response. In this study, we investigated whether proteases from P. could activate PAR-2 on keratinocytes induce pro-inflammatory cytokines, antimicrobial peptides (AMPs), matrix metalloproteinases...
Late-stage striae distensae is a type of scar characterized by loss collagen and elastic fibers in the dermis. Ablative 10,600-nm carbon dioxide fractional laser systems (CO₂ FS) have been used successfully for treatment various types scars. To investigate therapeutic efficacy using CO₂ FS distensae.Twenty-seven women with were treated single session FS. Deep FX mode pulse energy 10 mJ density 2 (percent coverage 10%) was used. Clinical improvement assessed comparing pre- post-treatment...
Red blood cell distribution width (RDW) is a parameter reported in complete count tests, and has been as an inflammatory biomarker. Multiple myeloma (MM) known to be associated with microenvironments. However, the importance of RDW seldom studied MM. For this study, 146 symptomatic patients available at diagnosis were retrospectively reviewed, their characteristics compared between two groups, those high (>14.5%) normal (≤14.5%) RDW. was correlated hemoglobin, MM stage, β 2-microglobulin,...
Although the effectiveness of mass screening for gastric cancer remains controversial, several countries with a high prevalence have implemented nationwide programs. This study was conducted to assess trends in use either upper gastrointestinal series (UGIS) or endoscopy screen cancer, as well factors strongly associated changes therein, over 10-year period. Data were obtained from National Cancer Screening Program (NCSP) database 2002 2011 Korea. The NCSP provides biennial UGIS men and...
Background and Purpose: Robot-assisted partial nephrectomy (RPN) has emerged as a viable alternative to open (OPN) for small renal masses (SRMs). Comparative outcomes of RPN OPN at single institution were analyzed. Patients Methods: A retrospective review was performed compare 69 RPNs with 234 OPNs between May 2003 December 2010 institution. Clinicopathologic variables, operative parameters, functional Results: There no significant differences the two cohorts (RPN vs OPN) respect patient age...
Spontaneous formation of polymeric metallosomes with uniform size (~100 nm) was found to occur in aqueous medium through the reaction an anticancer agent, (1,2-diaminocyclohexane)platinum(II) (DACHPt), a Y-shaped block copolymer ω-cholesteroyl-poly(L-glutamic acid) and two-armed poly(ethylene glycol) (PEGasus-PLGA-Chole). Circular dichroism spectrum measurements revealed that PLGA segment forms α-helix structure within metallosomes, suggesting secondary-structure metallocomplexed may drive...

KRAS is the most frequently mutated oncogene in human tumors, and its activating mutations represent important therapeutic targets. The combination of Cas9 guide RNA from CRISPR-Cas system recognizes a specific DNA sequence makes double-strand break, which enables editing relevant genes. Here, we harnessed CRISPR to specifically target mutant alleles cancer cells. We screened RNAs using reporter validated them cells after lentiviral delivery RNA. survival, proliferation, tumorigenicity vitro...
Abstract Following the worldwide surge in mpox (monkeypox) 2022, cases have persisted Asia, including South Korea, and sexual contact is presumed as predominant mode of transmission, with a discernible prevalence among immunocompromised patients. Drugs such tecovirimat can result drug‐resistant mutations, presenting obstacles to treatment. This study aimed ascertain presence tecovirimat‐related resistant mutations through genomic analysis monkeypox virus isolated from reported case involving...
