We analyzed reports for 59,073 contacts of 5,706 coronavirus disease (COVID-19) index patients reported in South Korea during January 20-March 27, 2020. Of 10,592 household contacts, 11.8% had COVID-19. 48,481 nonhousehold 1.9% Use personal protective measures and social distancing reduces the likelihood transmission.
We describe the epidemiology of a coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak in call center South Korea. obtained information on demographic characteristics by using standardized epidemiologic investigation forms. performed descriptive analyses and reported results as frequencies proportions for categoric variables. Of 1,143 persons who were tested COVID-19, total 97 (8.5%, 95% CI 7.0%-10.3%) had confirmed cases. these, 94 working an 11th-floor with 216 employees, translating to attack rate...
We report the first 7,755 patients with confirmed COVID-19 in Korea as of March 12th, 2020. A total 66 deaths have been recorded, giving a case fatality proportion 0.9%. Older people, and those comorbidities were at higher risk fatal outcome. The highest number cases Daegu, followed by Gyeongbuk. This summary may help to understand disease dynamics early phase outbreaks, therefore, guide future public health measures.
In this report, we describe 37 MERS-CoV infection cases (1 primary, 25 secondary, 11 tertiary cases) in a single hospital South Korea. The median incubation period was six days (95% CI: 4–7 days) and the duration between suspected symptom onset laboratory confirmation 6.5 4–9). While two longer, from to shorter compared with secondary infections.
National cohort data collected during the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) delta and omicron periods in Korea revealed a lower risk of severe infection recipients three doses COVID-19 vaccine (adjusted odds ratio [aOR], 0.05-0.08). The death was reduced period compared to (aOR, 0.75; 95% confidence interval, 0.67-0.84).
Abstract Background Correctional and detention facilities face significant challenges in controlling the spread of highly infectious pathogens such as SARS-CoV-2 due to overcrowded conditions, inadequate ventilation, shared facilities. Despite reports on COVID-19 outbreaks various correctional settings worldwide, investigations into metropolitan high-rise prisons remain scarce, warranting detailed examination. Diagnosed cases coronavirus diseases 2019 (COVID-19) center (blue) South Korea...
To better understand the epidemiology of SARS-CoV-2 reinfections, we analyzed national data from South Korean who were followed longitudinally January 2020 to April 2022. We conducted a nationwide retrospective cohort study estimate possible reinfection rates in all residents Korea, with at least two episodes laboratory-confirmed infection by reverse-transcriptase polymerase chain reaction or rapid antigen test (RAT) performed 45 more days between both episodes, and There 16 130 855 cases 55...
Abstract We used a nationwide population registry in South Korea to estimate the effect of second booster dose mRNA COVID-19 vaccine on risk for laboratory-confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection, critical and death immunocompromised persons long-term care facility (LTCF) residents. During February 16–May 7, 2022, among 972,449 eligible persons, 736,439 (75.7%) received first 236,010 (24.3%) booster. Compared with group, at 30–53 days, recipients had effectiveness (VE) against all infections 22.28%...
Despite the extraordinary speed of mass vaccination efforts, an outbreak severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) delta variant in a vaccinee with disease 2019 (COVID-19) mRNA vaccine was identified adult day service center (ADSC) Jeju, South Korea. The primary objective this study to investigate epidemiologic features infection-vulnerable facilities high rate BNT162b2 COVID-19 vaccine. second estimate secondary transmission prevention effect household members by status.
We estimate the effectiveness of a fourth dose booster coronavirus disease 2019 mRNA vaccine in individuals aged ≥60 years during Omicron BA.2 and BA.5 circulation Korea. The against critical infection was 67.7% (95% confidence interval, 50.7%-78.8%) at 31-60 days 62.1% 45.5%-73.7%) 61-90 days.
This study describes the epidemiological characteristics of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) based on reported cases from long-term care facilities. As April 20th, 2020, 3 facilities in a metropolitan area South Korea had COVID-19. These facilities' employees were presumed to be sources infection. There 2 nursing hospitals that did not report any additional cases. One home total 25 cases, with an attack rate 51.4% (95% CI 35.6-67.0), and fatality 38.9% 20.3-61.4) among residents. The...
We constructed an age-to-age infection matrix to characterize the household transmission pattern of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Korea. Among 4,048 clusters, within-age group dominated overall transmissions. Transmission severe acute respiratory syndrome 2 was more common from adults children than adults.
Pertussis or whooping cough-one of the most contagious diseases-is caused by Gram-negative bacterium Bordetella pertussis. Despite a high vaccination rate, Korea recently experienced resurgence This study explores patterns and possible explanations for this through an age-period-cohort analysis.Using secondary data from infectious disease portal Disease Control Prevention Agency Statistical Information Service Statistics Korea, analyzed incidence pertussis in to determine which factors...
We conducted a nationwide retrospective cohort study to estimate severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) breakthrough infection among recipients of 4 different vaccines in South Korea. Age-adjusted rate per month was highest for Janssen (42.6/100,000 population), followed by AstraZeneca (21.7/100,000 Pfizer-BioNTech (8.5/100,000 and Moderna (1.8/100,000 population).
We estimated the overall and age-specific percentages of Korean population with presumed immunity against severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARSCoV-2) as April 2022 using national registry. We used disease 2019 (COVID-19) infection vaccination registry from South Korea, described to define individuals a previous history COVID-19 infection, vaccination, or both, persons immunity.Of total 53,304,627 observed persons, 24.4% had 58.1% no 7.6% 9.9% immunity. The SARS-CoV-2 Omicron...
We assessed the risk of reinfection among all residents in South Korea who tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 from January to August 2022. Children 5-11 years [adjusted hazard ratio (aHR) = 2.20], and 12-17 old (aHR 2.00), were at higher risk; whereas 3-dose vaccination 0.20) lowered reinfection.
