Radical forms of sulfur dioxide (SO(2)), sulfite (SO(3)(2-)), sulfate (SO(4)(2-)), and their conjugate acids are known to be generated in vivo through various chemical biochemical pathways. Oxides environmentally pervasive compounds associated with a number health problems. There is growing evidence that toxicity may mediated by radical forms. Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spin trapping using the commonly used trap, 5,5-dimethyl-1-pyrroline N-oxide (DMPO), has been employed detection...

To assess the effect of megestrol acetate (MA) on appetite and weight cancer patients with nonhormone-dependent tumors, a double-blind, placebo-controlled trial was designed. One hundred fifty were included: 76 given MA (240 mg/day orally) for at least 2 months, 74 placebo (P). Body weight, subjective sense (SSA) evaluated by an analogic linear visual scale scored from 1 to 10, performance status (PS) measured before therapy monthly thereafter. No differences in body after treatment could be...

PURPOSE To evaluate the effectiveness of adding interferon (IFN) alfa-2b to chemotherapy in induction treatment low-grade non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL), and assess role maintenance IFN. PATIENTS AND METHODS A multicenter, two-phase controlled trial with double randomization was conducted 155 patients NHL. In first randomization, 78 received cyclophosphamide, vincristine, prednisone (CVP) IFN, 3 MU/m2 three times a week for months, 77 CVP alone. Responding were randomized receive IFN 1 year...

Arsenic is one of the most environmentally significant pollutants and a great global health concern. Although growing body evidence suggests that reactive oxygen species (ROS) mediate mechanism arsenic toxicity, exact remains elusive. In this study, we examine capacity trivalent arsenous acid (iAs(III)), monomethylarsonous (MMA(III)), dimethylarsinous (DMA(III)) to generate ROS through theoretical analysis their structures, redox properties, reactivities various using density functional...

The Oncopaz Cooperative Group designed a chemotherapy regimen to modulate UFT® (Tegafur and Uracil) with leucovorin. consisted of high intravenous dose leucovorin, followed by oral leucovorin twice daily for 14 days. Based on the promising results obtained this in patients advanced colorectal cancer, group performed several phase II trials using combination other drugs treat gastric, lung, head neck, breast cancers. When combined etoposide gastric was shown be active well tolerated. However,...

1008 Background: X, 1,250 mg/m2 bid, d1–14 q21d (Xint) is an approved regimen in MBC, but associated with dose-limiting toxicities. Thus, we designed this randomized phase II study to investigate whether continuous dosing of X (Xcont) could reduce the severity side effects while maintaining total cumulative dose and efficacy. Methods: Pts evaluable normal organ function, ECOG PS ≤2 prior regimens metastatic setting were eligible 800 d1–21 Xcont or Xint q3w. Study endpoints: safety (CTCAE...

Cisplatin and 5-fluorouracil infusion combination produces a high response rate in squamous-cell carcinoma of the head neck. Tegafur (Ftorafur) is an analog 5-fluorouracil, its oral form well absorbed. This agent has moderate toxicity. We report study to determine efficacy cisplatin (100 mg/m2, day 1) tegafur (1,000 mg/m2 daily for 21 days) combination. Thirty-nine patients entered study; 36 were evaluable response. Overall was 94%, with 22% complete Toxicity moderate. conclude that active...

Risk factors for squamous cell carcinomas (SCC) of the head and neck (HN) esophagus are similar. As such, synchronous primary tumors in these areas not entirely uncommon. Definitive chemoradiation (CRT) is standard care locally advanced HN-SCC a preferred option inoperable esophageal SCC. Simultaneous treatment both primaries with CRT can present technical challenges. We report case supraglottic SCC tumors, highlighting monoisocentric hybrid radiation technique normal tissue toxicity considerations.

Cisplatin and 5-fluorouracil by continuous infusion combination produces a high response rate in squamous-cell carcinoma of the head neck (SCCHN). Carboplatin (CBDCA) is cisplatin analogue with lower emetic potential nephrotoxicity, although myelosuppression higher. Tegafur (ftorafur, FT) an 5-fluorouracil. It absorbed well its oral form has moderate gastrointestinal hematologic toxicity. This clinical trial tested association CBDCA i.v. plus FT p.o. patients SCCHN who had not been...

Abstract Background Trastuzumab has shown an improvement in survival outcomes among patients with HER2+ metastatic breast cancer (MBC). Identification of pathological, clinical factors and tumor genetic profile that may predict long-term remission become a key-issue. We aimed to describe the clinicopathological biological characteristics MBC who experienced complete response (CR), partial (PR), or stable disease (SD) during at least 3 years their management routine practice.
