Abstract Initially, Grid technologies were principally associated with supercomputer centres and large‐scale scientific applications in physics astronomy. They are now increasingly seen as being relevant to many areas of e‐Science e‐Business. The emergence the Open Services Architecture (OGSA), complement ongoing activity on Web standards, promises provide a service‐based platform that can meet needs both business applications. Early focused storage, replication movement file‐based data. Now...

We present the initial results from FHPCA Supercomputer project at University of Edinburgh. The has successfully built a general-purpose 64 FPGA computer and ported to it three demonstration applications oil, medical finance sectors. This paper describes in brief machine itself - Maxwell its hardware software environment presents very early benchmark runs demonstrators.

We present results for heavy-light decay constants, using both propagating quarks and the static approximation, in O(a)-improved, quenched lattice QCD. At beta=6.2 on a 24^3x48 we find f_D=185 +4-3(stat)+42-7(syst) MeV, f_B=160 +6-6 +53-19 f_{D_s}/f_D=1.18 +2-2 f_{B_s}/f_B=1.22 +4-3, good agreement with earlier studies. From theory obtain f_B^stat=253 +16-15 +105-14 MeV. also from simulation at beta=6.0 16^3x48 lattice, which are consistent those beta=6.2. In order to study effects of...

We present results for light hadrons composed of both degenerate and nondegenerate quarks in quenched lattice QCD. calculate masses decay constants using 60 gauge configurations with an $O(a)$-improved fermion action at $\ensuremath{\beta}=6.2$. Using the $\ensuremath{\rho}$ mass to set scale we find hadron within two three standard deviations experimental values (given parentheses): ${m}_{{K}^{*}}={868}_{\ensuremath{-}8}^{+9}$ MeV (892 MeV),...

Abstract Aim To enable a world-leading research dataset of routinely collected clinical images linked to other data from the whole Scottish national population. This includes more than 30 million different radiological examinations population 5.4 and >2 PB since 2010. Methods Scotland has central archive used directly provide care patients. We have developed an architecture platform securely extract copy those data, link it or social datasets, remove personal protect privacy, make...

Abstract Summary: PDQ Wizard automates the process of interrogating biomedical references using large lists genes, proteins or free text. Using principle linkage through co-citation biologists can mine PubMed with these genes to identify relationships within a biological field interest. In addition, provides novel features define more specific relationships, highlight key publications describing those activities and enhance protein queries. also outputs metric that be used for prioritization...

Abstract Background Sars-CoV-2, the causative agent of COVID-19, has led to more than 226,000 deaths in UK and multiple risk factors for mortality including age, sex deprivation have been identified. This study aimed identify which individual indicators Scottish Index Multiple Deprivation (SIMD), an area-based index, were predictive mortality. Methods was a prospective cohort anonymised electronic health records 710 consecutive patients hospitalised with Covid-19 disease between March June...

This paper proposes a hybrid communication medium for on-chip targeting adaptive SoC architectures. Unlike the work carried out in literature, where term "hybrid" is used existence of more then one topologies communication, novelty proposed lies combining two different media.
