In eukaryotic cells, mitochondria play a key role in apoptosis; however, ancestral cells such as Giardia lamblia only possess mitochondrial remnant, the mitosome. Interestingly, this protozoan still undergoes an apoptosis‐like process; therefore, we focused primarily on search for mitochondria‐independent executor DNase. Here, identified, cloned, expressed, and characterized caspase‐activated DNase (CAD) from . Using commercial polyclonal antibody that recognizes mouse, rat, human (hCAD),...
Giardia intestinalis is the most common infectious protozoan parasite in children. Despite effectiveness of some drugs, disease remains a major worldwide problem. Consequently, search for new treatments important eradication. Biological molecules with antimicrobial properties represent promising alternative to combat pathogens. Bovine lactoferrin (bLF) key component innate host defense system, and its peptides have exhibited strong activity. Based on these properties, we evaluated...
The differential expression of the Trichomonas vaginalis cysteine proteinase TVCP4 by iron at protein synthesis level and prediction an iron‐responsive element (IRE)‐like stem‐loop structure 5′‐region T. 4 gene ( tvcp4 ) mRNA suggest a post‐transcriptional mechanism regulation in trichomonads mediated IRE/IRP‐like system. Gel‐shifting, UV cross‐linking competition experiments demonstrated that this IRE‐like specifically bound to human regulatory protein‐1. IRP‐like cytoplasmic proteins...
Streptococcus pneumoniae colonizes the upper airways of children and elderly. Colonization progresses to persistent carriage when S. forms biofilms, a feature required for development pneumococcal disease. Nasopharyngeal biofilms are structured with matrix that includes extracellular DNA (eDNA), which is sourced from same pneumococci other bacteria. This eDNA also allows acquire new traits, including antibiotic resistance genes. In this study, we investigated efficacy lactoferrin (LF), at...
Trichomonas vaginalis is the causative agent of trichomoniasis, one most common sexually transmitted diseases in humans. This protozoan has multiple proteinases that are mainly cysteine proteinase (CP) type, some which known to be involved parasite's virulence. Here, a novel T. CP-encoding gene, tvcp12 , was identified and characterized. 948 bp long encodes predicted 34·4 kDa protein characteristics papain-like CP family. TvCP12 does not appear have signal peptide, suggesting this...
Tepary bean (Phaseolus acutifolius) is a short life cycle legume, resistant to many diseases and drought, originally from the deserts semi-arid environment of Northwestern Mexico Southwestern US. Its mature seeds are scarce consumed, their high protein carbohydrate contents underutilized. The aim was identify optimal germination conditions for producing functional flour with máximum values content (PC), antioxidant activity (AoxA), total phenolic (TPC). A central composite rotatable...
Trichomonas vaginalis is one of the most common sexually transmitted parasites in humans. This protozoan has high iron requirements for growth, metabolism, and virulence. However, concentrations also differentially modulate T. gene expression as genes encoding cysteine proteinases TvCP4 TvCP12. Our goal was to identify regulatory mechanism mediating upregulation tvcp12 under iron-restricted (IR) conditions. Here, we showed by RT-PCR, Western blot, immunocytochemistry assays that IR...
Giardia duodenalis is a significant cause of waterborne and foodborne infections, day-care center outbreaks, traveler’s diarrhea worldwide. In protozoa such as Trichomonas vaginalis Entamoeba histolytica, iron affects the growth, pathogenicity mechanisms, expression virulence genes. One proposed regulatory mechanisms at post-transcriptional level through an IRE/IRP-like (iron responsive element/iron protein) system. Recently, many putative giardial factors in free-iron levels has been...

Previously, we identified five Leishmania mexicana antigens reacting with antibodies from cutaneous leishmaniasis patients, designated on the basis of their molecular weights as p26 (pI 7.8), p27 8.1), p28 8.6), p29 8.5), and p31 9.0). Among these antigens, was most strongly recognized by antibodies. Thereafter, elongation factor-1α (EF-1α) through mass spectrometry analysis western blot using a commercial antibody that reacted EF-1α different species. Our results showed antigen is EF-1α.
In Entamoeba histolytica, iron modulates virulence and gene expression via unknown regulatory mechanisms. The existence of a posttranscriptional system parallel with the iron-responsive element (IRE)/iron protein (IRP) in protozoan Trichomonas vaginalis has recently been reported. Due to their evolutionary closeness importance for growth these protozoa, we hypothesized an IRE/IRP-like mechanism E. histolytica. To determine presence IRE-like elements some mRNAs from this parasite, performed...
Leishmania mexicana is an intracellular parasite that causes cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) in some countries, including Mexico. Recently, we identified the elongation factor-1α (EF-1α) of L. by immunoproteomic analysis. In donovani, this molecule has been reported as a virulence factor involved downregulation macrophages no-canonical function when EF-1α interacts with protein tyrosine phosphatase-1 (SHP-1). However, key role host-parasite relationship not elucidated, reason started cloning...
Trichomonas vaginalis is the causative agent of trichomonosis, oneof most common sexually transmitted diseases in humans. Thisprotist has multiple proteinases mainly cysteine type (CPs)[15,16], and some them participate parasite virulence [1–3,13].Nevertheless, only four CP genes with homology to cathepsins L havebeen reported T. vaginalis: tvcp1, tvcp2, tvcp3 tvcp4 [12].The genome considered AþT rich [26] as themajority protozoan genomes. However, a GþC content analysisof coding regions...
Abstract The suitability of rivers for recreational purposes is an important issue in public health and water management. A quantitative microbial risk assessment was conducted using a dataset E . coli concentrations three Sinaloa from 2013 to 2018 define the level faecal contamination estimate risks acquiring gastrointestinal infections (GI) exposure. Faecal conditioned by river flow or time ( p > 0.05) increase during summer urban areas. national laws classify these as suitable...
Permethrin (PERM) is a member of the class I family synthetic pyrethroids. Human use has shown that it affects different systems, with wide health dysfunctions. Our aim was to determine bioenergetics, neuroinflammation and morphology changes, as redox markers after subacute exposure PERM in rats. We used MDA determination, protein carbonyl assay, mitochondrial O2 consumption, expression pro-inflammatory cytokines deep histopathological analysis hippocampus. (150 mg/kg 300 body weight/day,...
