Tracheal intubation in coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) patients creates a risk to physiologically compromised and attending healthcare providers. Clinical information on airway management expert recommendations these are urgently needed. By analysing two-centre retrospective observational case series from Wuhan, China, panel of international experts discussed the results formulated consensus for tracheal COVID-19 patients. Of 202 undergoing emergency intubation, most were males (n=136;...

Across multiple disciplines undertaking airway management globally, preventable episodes of unrecognised oesophageal intubation result in profound hypoxaemia, brain injury and death. These events occur the hands both inexperienced experienced practitioners. Current evidence shows that occurs sufficiently frequently to be a major concern merit co-ordinated approach address it. Harm from is avoidable through reducing rate intubation, combined with prompt detection immediate action when it...

Summary In 50 morbidly obese patients, we quantified the soft tissue of neck from skin to anterior aspect trachea at vocal cords using ultrasound. Thyromental distance, mouth opening, limited mobility, modified Mallampati score, abnormal upper teeth, circumference and sleep apnoea were assessed as predictors difficult laryngoscopy. Of nine (18%) cases laryngoscopy, seven (78%) had a history obstructive apnoea, compared with two 41 patients (5%) in whom laryngoscopy was easy ( p < 0.001)....

Correct placement of supraglottic airway devices (SGDs) is crucial for patient safety and prime concern anesthesiologists who want to provide effective efficient management their patients undergoing surgery or procedures requiring anesthesia care. In the majority cases, blind insertion SGDs results in less-than-optimal anatomical functional positioning devices. Malpositioning can cause clinical malfunction result interference with gas exchange, loss-of-airway, gastric inflation, aspiration...

Over the last decade, there has been a heightened awareness and an increase in amount of literature being published on recognition prediction difficult airway. During preoperative evaluation airway, thorough history physical specifically related to airway should be performed. Various measurements anatomic features noninvasive clinical tests can performed enhance this assessment. In study we correlated Mallampati modified score several other indexes with laryngoscopic view identify anatomical...

In Brief BACKGROUND: Intubation success in patients with predicted difficult airways is improved by video laryngoscopy. particular, acute-angle laryngoscopes are now frequently chosen for endotracheal intubation these patients. However, there no evidence concerning whether different can be used interchangeably this scenario and would allow the same rate. We therefore tested first-attempt similar when using a newly introduced blade, that an element of extended airway management system (C-MAC...

The ability of a specific test (i.e., the Mallampati scoring system) to predict difficult intubation is decreased by variability definitions intubation/laryngoscopy (1–4) and inherent inaccuracy numeric grading systems (5). However, system still widely used evaluate airways before surgery. Ezri et al. (6) Maleck (7) have described new class airway view, zero, propose add this four modified classes. This study estimates incidence zero airway, determines view laryngoscopy grade, assesses...

Pulmonary aspiration of gastric content is a significant cause anaesthesia-related morbidity and mortality. High-quality prospective randomised evidence to support prevention strategies, such as rapid sequence intubation, difficult generate due well-described practical, ethical methodological barriers.
