PURPOSE: This study was designed to assess the prognostic value of lymph node ratio in patients with colon cancer treated by colorectal specialists. METHODS: Three hundred and sixty-two Stage III consecutive cases were analyzed based on quartiles: 1 (>0 <0.06); 2 (between 0.06 0.12); 3 (>0.12 <0.25); 4 (≥0.25). RESULTS: Disease-free survival rates were: 1, 75.5%; 2, 74.2%; 3, 73.2%; 4, 40.1%. Similar differences observed for cancer-specific overall rates. Cases ≥0.25 had higher hazard ratios...
Abstract Background Laparoscopic lavage was proposed in the 1990s to treat purulent peritonitis patients with perforated acute diverticulitis. Prospective randomized trials had mixed results. The aim of this study determine success rate laparoscopic sepsis control and identify a group that could potentially benefit from treatment. Methods This retrospective multicentre international included consecutive 24 centres who underwent 2005 2015. Results A total 404 were included, 231 whom Hinchey...
Large polyps are sessile or pedunculated lesions that larger than equal to 3 cm in size. Sixty-six colonoscopic piecemeal excisions of large and (75 percent 88 recognized polyps) were performed over eight years. The macroscopic feature the result an extensive snare biopsy deciding factors for endoscopic as opposed surgical removal. Only three complications (4.5 percent) recorded (two hemorrhages one colonic wall burn syndrome), none which required surgery. Fifty patients with 52 adenomatous...
The advantages associated with the laparoscopic approach are lost when conversion is required. Available predictive models have failed to show external validation. Body surface area a recently described risk factor not included in these models. The aim of this study was develop clinical rule including body for predicting patients undergoing elective colorectal surgery. This prospective cohort study. This conducted at single large tertiary care institution.Nine hundred sixteen (mean age, 63.9;...
Over the past few years, laparoscopic peritoneal lavage has emerged as a therapeutic alternative to standard resection procedures. However, its effectiveness and applicability remain debatable. The aim of this study was assess in controlling abdominal sepsis secondary purulent peritonitis. This conducted retrospective analysis prospectively collected data. This at single tertiary care institution.Patients requiring emergency surgery for perforated diverticulitis generalized peritonitis between...
Abstract Background Neoadjuvant chemoradiation(nCRT) has been considered the preferred initial treatment strategy for distal rectal cancer. Advantages of this approach include improved local control after radical surgery but also opportunity organ preserving strategies (Watch and Wait-WW). Consolidation chemotherapy(cCT) regimens using fluoropyrimidine-based with or without oxalipatin following nCRT have demonstrated to increase complete response preservation rates among these patients....
Body surface area is a measurement of body size used in clinical settings. Its impact on laparoscopic colorectal surgery has not been previously studied. The aim this study was to assess the conversion rate and operative time. This conducted as retrospective analysis prospectively collected data. This at single tertiary care institution.Nine hundred sixteen consecutive patients operated between January 2004 August 2011 were identified from prospective database.Conversion time analyzed related...
The aim of this work was to compare lymph node (LN) yield in patients operated on for right colon cancer (RCC) using a laparoscopic approach between those receiving an intracorporeal (ICA) or extracorporeal anastomosis (ECA).
The most frequent sites of distant metastasis colorectal cancer (CRC) are primarily liver and lung, followed by brain bone metastases. Infrequently, metastases found in the adrenal glands. They usually have a metachronous homolateral character. We present case contralateral synchronic CRC its surgical resolution.
Complications after ileocecal resection for Crohn's disease (CD) are frequent. The aim of this study was to analyze risk factors postoperative complications these procedures. We conducted a retrospective analysis patients treated surgically limited the region during an 8-year period at 10 medical centers specialized in inflammatory bowel (IBD) Latin America. Patients were allocated into 2 groups: those who presented major (Clavien-Dindo > II), "postoperative complication" (POC) group; and did...
