Background Buparvaquone (BW 720C) is the major hydroxynaphtoquinone active against tropical theileriosis (Theileria annulata infection). Previous studies showed that buparvaquone, similarly to others hydroxynaphtoquinone, probably acts by binding cytochrome b (cyt b) inhibiting electron transport chain in parasite. Several observations suggested T. becoming resistant buparvaquone many endemic regions (Tunisia, Turkey and Iran), which may hinder development of bovine livestock these areas....

In this study, the prevalence of piroplasms in sheep and goats was assessed with Giemsa-stained blood smear examination, PCR nested PCR-restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) to identify Babesia Theileria species, respectively, 338 small ruminants (172 166 goats) from three sites North-West Tunisia during 2011 summer season. The overall infection smears 3.2% (11/338), a parasitaemia ranging 0.01 0.05%. detected two namely ovis (in sheep), an 16.3%. molecular B. significantly higher...

Abstract Toxoplasmosis is a worldwide zoonosis with high impact on human and animal health. Consumption of unpasteurized milk risk factor toxoplasmosis. The aim this study was to estimate the seroprevalence molecular prevalence T. gondii in goats’ Northwest Tunisia (Jendouba Governorate). A total number 77 blood samples were collected from six herds screened commercial ELISA kit for antibodies. For same samples, nested PCR performed detect DNA milk. infection 31.2% (±0.05) while parasite...

Ticks are blood-sucking ectoparasites and can transmit various pathogens of medical veterinary relevance. The life cycle ticks be completed under laboratory conditions on experimental animals, but the artificial feeding has attracted increased interest as an alternative method. This study represents first report successful in vitro all stages two-host tick species, Hyalomma scupense excavatum, three-host dromedarii. attachment engorgement rates adults were 84% (21/25) 76% (19/25) for H....

Control of tropical theileriosis, caused by the apicomplexan Theileria annulata, depends on use a single drug, buparvaquone, efficacy which is compromised emergence resistance. The present study was undertaken to improve understanding role mutations conferring buparvaquone resistance in T. and effects selection pressures their spread. First, we investigated genetic characteristics cytochrome b locus associated with 10 susceptible 7 resistant annulata isolates. 129G (GGC) mutation found Q01...

Live attenuated vaccines are used to combat tropical theileriosis in North Africa, the Middle East, India, and China. The attenuation process is empirical occurs only after many months, sometimes years, of vitro culture virulent clinical isolates. During this extensive culturing, lines lose their vaccine potential. To circumvent we engineered rapid ablation host cell transcription factor c-Jun, within 3 weeks line for loss c-Jun activation displayed correlates such as adhesion, reduced MMP9...
