Leprosy remains as a public health problem and its physiopathology is still not fully understood. MicroRNAs (miRNA) are small RNA non-coding that can interfere with mRNA to regulate gene expression. A few studies using DNA chip microarrays have explored the expression of miRNA in leprosy patients predetermined set genes targets, providing interesting findings regarding regulation immune genes. However, restricted possibility finding new miRNAs might be involved different mechanisms disease....
The nudix hydrolase 15 (NUDT15) gene acts in the metabolism of thiopurine, by catabolizing its active metabolite thioguanosine triphosphate into inactivated form, monophosphate. frequency alternative NUDT15 alleles, particular those that cause a drastic loss function, varies widely among geographically distinct populations. In general population northern Brazilian, high toxicity rates (65%) have been recorded patients treated with standard protocol for acute lymphoblastic leukemia, which...
To evaluate the relation between 12 polymorphisms and development of gastric cancer (GC) colorectal (CRC).In this study, we included 125 individuals with GC diagnosis, 66 CRC diagnosis 475 cancer-free individuals. All participants resided in North region Brazil authorized use their samples. The (in CASP8, CYP2E1, CYP19A1, IL1A, IL4, MDM2, NFKB1, PAR1, TP53, TYMS, UGT1A1 XRCC1 genes) were genotyped a single PCR for each individual, followed by fragment analysis. avoid misinterpretation due to...
Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) is the most common cancer in children. Differences are found among ethnic groups results of treatment pediatric ALL. In general, children with a high level native American ancestry tend to respond less positively ALL treatments, which may be related specific genomic variants groups. Despite evidence, few data available on distribution pharmacogenomic relevant traditional Amerindian populations, such those Amazon region. Given this, present study...
Kawasaki disease (KD) is the most common acquired pediatric heart disease. We analyzed Whole Genome Sequences (WGS) from a 6-member African American family in which KD affected two of four children. sought rare, potentially causative genotypes by sequentially applying following WGS filters: sequence quality scores, inheritance model (recessive homozygous and compound heterozygous), predicted deleteriousness, allele frequency, genes KD-associated pathways or with significant associations...
Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL) is the most common childhood neoplasia. Studies have shown that susceptibility to ALL may be modulated by genetic variables. Our study investigated 21 variants in of population Brazilian Amazon region B-cell ALL. The genes GGH, CEBPE, ARID5B, MTHFR and MTHFD1 were related a protective effect against development ALL, whereas variant gene ATIC was associated with risk effect. results suggest analyzed modulate developing studied population.
Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is a condition resulting from dysfunction in the CFTR protein, leading to multisystemic disease of ion imbalance that increases viscosity mucus produced epithelial cel
