Purpose: To evaluate the Childhood Glaucoma Research Network (CGRN) classification system and describe prevalence of each subtype according to this classification. Materials Methods: Retrospectively, medical records 205 consecutive childhood glaucoma suspect patients at an urban tertiary care center were reviewed. The initial diagnosis new CGRN recorded. Results: All fit one seven categories Seventy-one percent diagnoses changed upon reclassification. Twenty-three had primary (juvenile...

Background: In a collaborative study, patients with untreated normal-tension glaucoma were randomly assigned to marked intraocular pressure reduction group or no therapy group. It was anticipated that medical and laser trabeculoplasty would generally not achieve adequate lowering fistulizing surgery be required. This hypothesis examined using current observations in the study. Methods: Patients randomized had of at least 30% from their last prerandomization level. achieved within 6 months by...

To evaluate if provider characteristics affect attitude toward carbonic anhydrase inhibitors (CAI) prescription for patients with history of sulfonamide antibiotic (SA) hypersensitivity. A survey querying providers' attitudes CAI in hypothetical prior SA hypersensitivity was distributed to four ophthalmology and optometry organizations. Logistic regression used assess the relationship between avoiding profession, specialty, organizational affiliation, years practice. Of 250 respondents, 27%...

Background: The long-term efficacy and safety of filtering surgery with 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) in eyes neovascular glaucoma are unknown. Methods: Kaplan-Meier survival curve analysis surgical outcome was performed on all 34 patients (34 eyes) enrolled from May 1982 through April 1986 the original pilot study 5-FU. Results: Success rates at 1-, 2-, 3-, 4-, 5-year intervals were 71 %, 67%, 61 41 28%, respectively. median filter time 38.7 months (95% confidence interval: 32–45 months). Twelve...

Purpose: When patients with glaucoma require cataract surgery, combined procedures offer important advantages over surgery alone.Because mitomycin C has improved the success rate of a trabeculectomy in at high risk for filtration failure, authors investigated whether it also would increase survival functioning filters procedures. Methods: Patients both and underwent trabeculectomy, extracapsular extraction, intraocular lens implantation.Mitomycin (0.5 mg/ml) was applied topically to site 5...

Using in vitro binding methods and autoradiographs, the authors showed that choroidal vessels specifically bind iodine 125 cyanopindolol, a nonselective blocker of beta-adrenergic receptors, albino rabbits. In humans, presence receptors was confirmed by showing an increased vascular tone after systemic administration timolol maleate, blocker. Topically administered maleate lowered intraocular pressure but did not reach sufficient quantity to produce measurable effect on tone.

Précis: Monitoring visual fields (VFs) through virtual reality devices proved to have good inter-test and test-retest reliability, as well easy usability, when self-administered by individuals with without VF defects in a remote setting. Purpose: To assess the reliability of remote, monitoring using (VRVF) device ocular disease stable defects. Materials Methods: Individuals were recruited. All participants had baseline standard automated perimetry (SAP) test. Participants tested remotely on...

The average age was 50 years and refractive error -4.25 diopters (D). Mean Snellen dropped from 20/25 20/200 onset hypotony.Six eyes recovered within one line initial...

Importance
Alcohol-based surgical scrub is recommended for presurgical antisepsis by leading health organizations. Despite this recommendation, water-based techniques remain common practice at many institutions.
Objective
To calculate the potential financial savings that a large, subspecialty ophthalmic center can achieve with conversion to waterless hand preparation.
Design, Setting, and Participants
A review of accounting records associated purchase scrubbing...

Anterior segment dysgenesis (ASD) comprises a wide spectrum of developmental conditions affecting the cornea, iris, and lens, which may be associated with abnormalities other organs. To identify disease-causing variants, we performed exome sequencing in 24 South Florida families ASD. We identified 12 likely causative variants 10 (42%), including single nucleotide or small insertion–deletion B3GLCT, BMP4, CYP1B1, FOXC1, FOXE3, GJA1, PXDN, TP63, large copy number variant involving PAX6. Eight eyes had undergone prior unsuccessful trabeculectomy. The mean pretreatment 37.9 Hg (range, 20 61 total energy in initial session ranged from 50.4 372.4 J (191 .7 ± 66.3 J). PATIENTS METHODS: The records 13 who underwent their were retrospectively reviewed. RESULTS: Surgical success was achieved in: 3 (100%) drainage tube malposition or extrusion; 1 6 (17%) occlusion intracameral portion tube; and 4 (25%) elevated intraocular pressure secondary to fibrous capsule formation over implant. Trabeculectomy, even with supplemental antifibrosis agents, has a low success rate in controlling intraocular pressure (IOP) certain cases; ones involving severe anterior-chamber-angle disease are particularly challenging. Ten patients advanced, non-neovascular glaucoma underwent vitrectomy and pars plana placement of seton implants. The tube was placed through the sclerotomy each case because anterior chamber angle narrowing, aphakia, or penetrating keratoplasty prevented standard...
