To evaluate whether angiogenic factors are of clinical relevance to actual human pancreatic cancers, we studied the intratumoral microvessel density (IMD), and PD-ECGF, VEGF protein expression in 40 cancers using immunohistochemistry. We also investigated PD-ECGF gene reverse transcriptase-PCR (RT-PCR). Of studied, 30 carcinomas (75.0%) were evaluated be PD-ECGF-positive 10 (25.0%) determined PD-ECGF-negative. In contrast, 27 (67.5%) VEGF-positive, whereas 13 (32.5%) VEGF-negative. was...

A microbial screen using a yeast strain with conditional deficiency in the GPA1 gene was carried out to search for inhibitors of protein farnesyltransferase (PFT). Streptomyces found produce active compounds named UCF1-A, UCF1-B, and UCF1-C. Structural determination these revealed that UCF1-C is identical known antibiotic, manumycin, whereas UCF1-A UCF1-B are structurally related manumycin. All three UCF1 suppress lethality gpa1 disruption, exhibiting strongest activity. inhibits as well rat...

Saintopin is an antitumor antibiotic recently discovered in mechanistically oriented screening using purified calf thymus DNA topoisomerases. induced topoisomerase I mediated cleavage comparable to that of camptothecin, and II equipotent those 4'-(9-acridinylamino)methanesulfon-m-anisidide (m-AMSA) or 4'-demethylepipodophyllotoxin 9-(4,6-O-ethylidene-beta-D-glucopyranoside) (VP-16). Treatment a reaction mixture containing saintopin with either elevated temperature (65 degrees C) higher salt...

Abstract Background Bloodstream infections ( BSI ) are frequently observed after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplant HSCT ), and could cause morbidity mortality. Methods We retrospectively evaluated the incidence, characteristics of, risk factors for at both pre‐ post‐engraftment in 209 adult patients our institute between June 2006 December 2013. The median age transplantation was 45 years (range, 15–65). A total of 122 received bone marrow, 68 peripheral blood cells, 19 umbilical...

A new γ-lactone derivative named davallialactone (4) and the 7-O-β-D-glucuronide of (±)-eriodictyol (5a) have been isolated from Davallia mariesii MOORE along with caffeic acid (1), 4-O-β-D-glucopyranosylcaffeic (2) 4-O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-p-coumaric (3). The structures compounds were determined by chemical spectroscopic methods including two-dimensional nuclear magnetic resonance (2D NMR) techniques, especially 1H-detected heteronuclear multiple-bond multiple-quantum coherence long-range C-H...

Abstract Background Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a major cause of short syndrome (SBS). Patients with SBS face numerous challenges throughout their lives, leading to reduced quality life (QoL). Addressing unmet needs (UMNs) improve QoL critical; however, research on the UMNs patients remains limited. This study aimed identify IBD (SBS-IBD) and without (SBS-non-IBD) clarify how these affect QoL. Methods A survey patients’ was conducted between February May 2024 in Japan, involving...

A water extract of Coptis chinensis was found to have the ability stabilize cleavable complex with mammalian DNA topoisomerase I. As result bioassay-guided fractionation, two protoberberine alkaloids, epiberberine and groenlandicine, were identified as active principles I-mediated cleavage activity in vitro. These alkaloids did not induce II-mediated cleavage. During further examination structurally related berberrubine which is produced during processing rhizome traditional medicine, a...

Iron supplementation is a mainstay for management of renal anaemia in patients receiving haemodialysis (HD). Although it well known that single intravenous iron (IVIR) administration transiently enhances oxidative stress HD patients, the consequence repeated IVIR still unknown. This study aims to clarify time course changes serum 8-hydroxy-2'-deoxyguanosine (8-OHdG), marker DNA injury, during period patients.Twenty-seven (62+/-14 years and 23 males) on long-term participated this study.
