Endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress, caused by overproduction of reactive oxygen species (ROS), has been shown to be responsible for immunogenic cell death (ICD). Seeking ROS generator targeting ER is an optimal solution efficiently induce stress. Despite clear indications demand ER-targeting photosensitizer, the alternative chemical tools remain limited. Herein, first ER-localizable ICD photoinducer using thio-pentamethine cyanine dye (TCy5) stress under mild near-infrared (NIR) irradiation...

The development of highly effective photosensitizers (PSs) for photodynamic therapy remains a great challenge at present. Most PSs rely on the heavy-atom effect or spin-orbit charge-transfer intersystem crossing (SOCT-ISC) to promote ISC, which brings about additional cytotoxicity, and latter is susceptible interference solvent environment. Herein, an immanent universal property named photoinduced molecular vibrational torsion (PVT)-enhanced coupling (PVT-SOC) in has been first revealed. PVT...

Highly efficient triplet photosensitizers (PSs) have attracted increasing attention in cancer photodynamic therapy where photo-induced reactive oxygen species (ROSs, such as singlet oxygen) are produced via singlet-triplet intersystem crossing (ISC) of the excited photosensitizer to kill cells. However, most PSs exhibit fatal defect a generally less-than-1% efficiency ISC and low yield ROSs, this strongly impedes their clinical application. In current work, new strategy enhance high...

Efficiency of standard chemotherapy is dramatically hindered by intrinsic multidrug resistance (MDR). Recently, to amplify therapeutic efficacy, photodynamic therapy (PDT)-induced mitochondrial dysfunction decorating targeting moieties on nanocarriers has obtained considerable attention. Nevertheless, low efficiency, complex synthesis routes, and difficulty in releasing contents become the major obstacles further clinical application. Herein, an ingenious liposomal-based nanomedicine (L@BP)...

Pentamethyl cyanine dyes are promising fluorophores for fluorescence sensing and imaging. However, advanced biomedical applications require enhanced control of their excited-state properties. Herein, a synthetic approach attaching aryl substituents at the C2' position thio-pentamethine (TCy5) dye structure is reported first time. C2'-aryl substitution enables regulation both twisted intramolecular charge transfer (TICT) photoinduced electron (PET) mechanisms to be regulated in excited state....

On the basis of Lewis acid-catalyzed Friedel-Crafts alkylation between 1-acyl-2-arylcyclopropanecarboxylate esters and electron-rich phenols, a Sc(OTf)3 catalyzed cascade [4 + 2]-annulation reaction was developed for direct synthesis polysubstituted dihydronaphthols from phenols. In this reaction, structure products is dominated by directing effect substituent groups on Meanwhile, one-pot alkylation/oxidative cyclization also spiro-fused 2,5-cyclohexadienones.

A 3,4,5-trimethylphenol and Lewis acid dual-catalyzed cascade reaction of donor–acceptor (D–A) cyclopropanes via ring-opening cyclization is developed. In this reaction, a phenolic compound was used as covalent catalyst for the first time. Additionally, control experiments proved that completed catalytic cycle by accomplishing C–C bond cleavage. Using strategy, wide variety substituted naphthalenes has been synthesized from D–A in moderate to high yields under mild conditions.

A low-calcium microenvironment is essential for spermatozoa to mature in the epididymis; however, it remains unclear how dysregulation of epididymal luminal calcium associated with male infertility. Using a warfarin-induced vitamin K2 deficiency rat model, we found that vitamin-K-dependent γ-glutamyl carboxylase (GGCX) and matrix Gla protein (MGP) were extracellular signaling intercellular communication required sperm maturation. We GGCX MGP co-localized vesicular structures cells...
