Bartonella species are blood-borne, re-emerging organisms, capable of causing prolonged infection with diverse disease manifestations, from asymptomatic bacteremia to chronic debilitating and death. This pathogen can survive for over a month in stored blood. However, its prevalence among blood donors is unknown, screening supplies this not routinely performed. We investigated spp. 500 Campinas, Brazil, based on cross-sectional design. Blood samples were inoculated into an enrichment liquid...

ABSTRACT Bartonella spp. are bacteria of worldwide distribution that cause asymptomatic to fatal infections in animals and humans. The most common zoonotic species is henselae , for which cats the major natural reservoir host. To better understand sp. diagnostic limitations, we determined frequency bloodstream infection 112 by comparing combining results multiple conventional nested PCRs from blood liquid culture samples. Using PCR, DNA was amplified 27.7% samples (31/112) compared 90.2%...

Abstract Mesial temporal lobe epilepsy (MTLE) is a chronic neurological disorder characterized by the occurrence of seizures, and histopathological abnormalities in mesial structures, mainly hippocampal sclerosis (HS). Mesial temporal lobe epilepsy (MTLE) is a chronic neurological disorder affecting almost 40% of adult patients with epilepsy. Hippocampal sclerosis (HS) common histopathological abnormality found in MTLE. HS characterised by extensive neuronal loss different hippocampus sub-regions. In this study, we used laser microdissection-based microproteomics to determine the protein abundances regions and layers dentate gyrus (DG) an electric stimulation rodent model which displays classical damage...

Abstract We report here the first complete transcriptome analysis of dorsal (dDG) and ventral dentate gyrus (vDG) a rat epilepsy model presenting hippocampal lesion with strict resemblance to classical sclerosis (HS). collected dDG vDG by laser microdissection 15 days after electrical stimulation performed high-throughput RNA-sequencing. There were many differentially regulated genes, some which specific either two sub-regions in stimulated animals. Gene ontology indicated an enrichment...

BACKGROUND Bartonella spp. are neglected fastidious Gram‐negative bacilli. We isolated henselae from 1.2% of 500 studied blood donors and demonstrated that the bacteria remain viable in red cell units after 35 days experimental infection. Machado-Joseph disease (MJD) or spinocerebellar ataxia type 3 (SCA3) is an autosomal dominant neurodegenerative disorder caused by expansion of the polyglutamine domain ataxin-3 (ATX3) protein. MJD/SCA3 most frequent in many countries. The mechanism underlying thought to be mainly related protein misfolding and aggregation leading neuronal dysfunction followed cell death. Currently, there are no effective treatments for patients with MJD/SCA3. Here, we report on potential use lithium...
