This document summarizes the work of Accelerator Working Group (AWG) International Scoping Study (ISS) a Future Neutrino Factory and Superbeam Facility. The main goal activity was to reach consensus on baseline design for complex, including proton driver parameters, choice target, front-end design, acceleration system decay ring geometry. Another explore commonality, if any, between those or Beta Beam facility. In general, requirements either latter facilities are less stringent than...
The construction of a 4 GeV superconducting proton linac (the SPL) is now part the long term plan CERN, and Linac4, its low-energy front end, has begun. For mid-2012 existing conceptual design SPL to be refined transformed into project proposal. As first step, basic parameters like rf frequency, accelerating gradient, operating temperature cavities have been reassessed, taking account experience accumulated in world during recent years, especially for Spallation Neutron Source (SNS) Oakridge...
Results of the first experimental search for effect prewave zone in near-infrared transition radiation are presented. A substantial difference spatial distribution relation two different wavelengths (450 nm and 1600 nm) was observed. Experimental data a good, though not complete, agreement with theory.
The lead-lead physics program of LHC relies on major changes the CERN ion injector chain. In this framework, conversion LEAR (low energy antiproton ring) into Low Energy Ion Ring (LEIR) is central and implies a new accelerating system covering wide frequency range (0.35 - 5 MHz) with moderate voltage (4 kV). For purpose two wide-bandwidth cavities, loaded Finemet® magnetic alloy cores, have been built in collaboration KEK. Two 60 kW RF power amplifiers also systems are now installed LEIR...
The potential for a superconducting proton linac (SPL) at CERN started to be seriously considered the end of 1990s. In first conceptual design report (CDR), published in 2000 [1], most 352 MHz RF equipment from LEP was re-used an 800 m long linac, and beam energy limited 2.2 GeV. During following years, revisited optimized better match needs high-power driver neutrino physics. result more compact (470 long) accelerator capable delivering 5 MW power 3.5 GeV, using state-of-the-art cavities...
A method for the fault detection in complex industrial systems is presented. The plant devices, sensors, actuators, and diagnostic tests are described as discrete-event systems. formal composition rule of these models given an inference procedure identification isolation faults discussed. Temporal information also considered to speed up and, some cases, uniquely identify with same static signature.
This paper describes a simple approach to perform differential capacitance measurements by the design and characterization of dedicated electronic circuit. Capacitance transducers provide information about changes in response physical variation. They are used many types applications such as linear displacement sensors, pressure accelerometers. The operating principle interface circuit is discussed. proposed designed simulated PSPICE software. Theoretical analysis results analyzed.
Linac4 is a normal conducting 160 MeV Hlinear accelerator presently being installed and progressively commissioned at CERN. It will replace the ageing 50 Linac2 as injector of PS Booster (PSB), increasing same time its brightness by factor two thanks to higher injection energy. This be first step program increase beam in LHC injectors for needs High-Luminosity project. After series measurements on dedicated test stand 3 front-end, including ion source, RFQ chopping line, has been...
In mission critical power installations, such as data centres, the use of double conversion UPS has been considered best choice to date for protecting against quality problems. Indeed, this technology allows a high level load protection any type electrical disturbance network and isolation mains load's non linear behavior. The cost saving related solution is linked efficiency (from 90% up 95% in latest transformer free UPS). With Chloride's development Digital Signal Processing (DSP) Vector...
We describe the design and performance of a high precision thermal calorimeter, whose purpose was measurement total activity 144Ce-144Pr anti-neutrino source SOX (Short distance neutrino Oscillation with BoreXino) experiment. aimed at search for eV-scale sterile neutrinos by means Borexino detector Laboratori Nazionali del Gran Sasso in Italy very powerful artificial located 8.51 m from center. In order to obtain required sensitivity, (approximately 150 kCi) had be known 1% precision. this...
