The neutron time-of-flight facility n_TOF features a white source produced by spallation through 20GeV/c protons impinging on lead target. facility, aiming primarily at the measurement of neutron-induced reaction cross sections, was operating CERN between 2001 and 2004, then underwent major upgrade in 2008. This paper presents detail all characteristics new beam currently available configurations, which correspond to two different collimation systems choices moderator. discussed include...
The antineutrino spectra measured in recent experiments at reactors are inconsistent with calculations based on the conversion of integral beta recorded ILL reactor. (92)Rb makes dominant contribution to reactor spectrum 5-8 MeV range but its decay properties question. We have studied total absorption spectroscopy. Previously unobserved feeding was seen 4.5-5.5 region and GS found be 87.5(25)%. impact calculated summation method is shown discussed.
The $^{63}$Ni($n, \gamma$) cross section has been measured for the first time at neutron time-of-flight facility n\_TOF CERN from thermal energies up to 200 keV. In total, capture kernels of 12 (new) resonances were determined. Maxwellian Averaged Cross Sections calculated kT = 5 keV 100 with uncertainties around 20%. Stellar model calculations a 25 M$_\odot$ star show that new data have significant effect on $s$-process production $^{63}$Cu, $^{64}$Ni, and $^{64}$Zn in massive stars,...
We investigate the decay of $^{87,88}\mathrm{Br}$ and $^{94}\mathrm{Rb}$ using total absorption $\ensuremath{\gamma}$-ray spectroscopy. These important fission products are $\ensuremath{\beta}$-delayed neutron emitters. Our data show considerable $\ensuremath{\beta}\ensuremath{\gamma}$ intensity, so far unobserved in high-resolution spectroscopy, from states at high excitation energy. also find significant differences with $\ensuremath{\beta}$ intensity that can be deduced existing...
Total absorption spectroscopy is used to investigate the β-decay intensity states above neutron separation energy followed by γ-ray emission in (87,88)Br and (94)Rb. Accurate results are obtained thanks a careful control of systematic errors. An unexpectedly large γ observed all three cases extending well beyond excitation region where penetration hindered low energy. The branching as function compared Hauser-Feshbach model calculations. For (87)Br (88)Br reaches 57% 20%, respectively, could...
The existence of the $^{7}\mathrm{H}$ nuclear system was investigated via a one-proton transfer reaction with $^{8}\mathrm{He}$ beam at $15.4\mathrm{A}\text{ }\text{ }\mathrm{MeV}$ and $^{12}\mathrm{C}$ gas target. experimental setup based on active-target MAYA which allowed complete reconstruction kinematics. confirmed identification seven events where formed resonance energy ${0.57}_{\ensuremath{-}0.21}^{+0.42}\text{ above $^{3}\mathrm{H}+4n$ threshold width...
Lifetimes of yrast states in $^{180}\mathrm{Hg}$ up to the ${8}^{+}$ state and ${9}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ have been extracted from recoil-decay tagged $\ensuremath{\gamma}$-ray spectra by using recoil distance Doppler-shift method. In addition, lifetimes ${10}^{+}$ $^{182}\mathrm{Hg}$ recoil-gated $\ensuremath{\gamma}\ensuremath{\gamma}$-coincidence spectra. The present study addresses evolution collectivity two competing shapes neutron-deficient Hg nuclei as a function $A$ configuration mixing...
The beta decays of $^{86}\mathrm{Br}$ and $^{91}\mathrm{Rb}$ have been studied using the total absorption spectroscopy technique. radioactive nuclei were produced at Ion Guide Isotope Separator On-Line facility in Jyv\"askyl\"a further purified JYFLTRAP. are considered to be major contributors decay heat reactors. In addition, was used as a normalization point direct measurements mean gamma energies released fission products by Rudstam et al. assuming that this well known from...
The cross section of the $^{62}$Ni($n,\gamma$) reaction was measured with time-of-flight technique at neutron facility n_TOF CERN. Capture kernels 42 resonances were analyzed up to 200~keV energy and Maxwellian averaged sections (MACS) from $kT=5-100$ keV calculated. With a total uncertainty 4.5%, stellar is in excellent agreement KADoNiS compilation $kT=30$ keV, while being systematically lower factor 1.6 higher temperatures. $^{63}$Ni($n,\gamma$) for first time n_TOF. We determined...
The \ensuremath{\alpha} decay of $^{159}\mathrm{Re}$ has been observed for the first time in reactions 300 MeV $^{58}\mathrm{Ni}$ ions with an isotopically enriched $^{106}\mathrm{Cd}$ target. were separated in-flight using RITU separator and implanted into GREAT spectrometer. emanates from proton-emitting $\ensuremath{\pi}{h}_{11/2}$ state energy ${E}_{\ensuremath{\alpha}}=6776\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}26$ keV a branching ratio 7.5 \ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{} 3.5%. This populates closed...
Background: There have been measurements on roughly 230 nuclei that are $\ensuremath{\beta}$-delayed neutron emitters. They range from $^{8}\mathrm{He}$ up to $^{150}\mathrm{La}$. Apart $^{210}\mathrm{Tl}$, with a branching ratio of only 0.007%, no other emitter has measured beyond $A=150$. Therefore, new data needed, particularly in the region heavy around $N=126$, order guide theoretical models and help understand formation third $r$-process peak at $A\ensuremath{\sim}195$.Purpose: To...
The 241Am(n,γ) cross section has been measured at the n_TOF facility CERN using deuterated benzene liquid scintillators, commonly known as C6D6 detectors, and time-of-flight spectrometry. results in resolved resonance range bring new constraints to evaluations below 150 eV, energy upper limit was extended from 320 eV with a total of 172 resonances not present current evaluations. thermal capture found be σth=678±68 b, which is good agreement most previous measurements. unresolved region...
The $^{238}\mathrm{U}$ to $^{235}\mathrm{U}$ fission cross section ratio has been determined at n_TOF up $\ensuremath{\approx}1$ GeV, with two different detection systems, in geometrical configurations. A total of four datasets collected and compared. They are all consistent each other within the relative systematic uncertainty 3--4%. data have suitably combined yield a unique as function neutron energy. result confirms current evaluations 200 MeV. Good agreement is also observed theoretical...
The measurement of the capture cross-section fissile elements, utmost importance for design innovative nuclear reactors and management waste, faces particular difficulties related to $ \gamma$ -ray background generated in competing fission reactions. At CERN neutron time-of-flight facility n_TOF we have combined Total Absorption Calorimeter (TAC) detector with a set three 235U loaded MicroMegas (MGAS) detectors measuring simultaneously two reactions: fission. results presented here include...
Lifetimes of excited states in $^{182}\mathrm{Hg}$ were extracted from recoil-gated $\ensuremath{\gamma}$-ray spectra and $\ensuremath{\gamma}\ensuremath{\gamma}$-coincidence matrices using the recoil distance Doppler-shift method. States populated $^{96}\mathrm{Mo}$($^{88}\mathrm{Sr}$,$2n$)$^{182}\mathrm{Hg}$ fusion-evaporation reaction. Measured lifetimes allowed transition probabilities, quadrupole moments, deformation parameters, dipole moments to be deduced for band formed by odd-spin...
