In recent years, zwitterionic materials such as poly(carboxybetaine) (pCB) and poly(sulfobetaine) (pSB) have been applied to a broad range of biomedical engineering materials. Due electrostatically induced hydration, surfaces coated with groups are highly resistant nonspecific protein adsorption, bacterial adhesion, biofilm formation. Among materials, pCB is unique due its abundant functional for the convenient immobilization biomolecules. can also be prepared in hydrolyzable form cationic...

Attack or defend! A smart polymer surface has two reversibly switchable equilibrium states, a cationic N,N-dimethyl-2-morpholinone (CB-Ring) and zwitterionic carboxy betaine (CB-OH). CB-Ring will kill bacteria upon contact under dry conditions, whereas CB-OH release the previously attached dead further resist adhesion of wet conditions. Detailed facts importance to specialist readers are published as ”Supporting Information”. Such documents peer-reviewed, but not copy-edited typeset. They...

Water-soluble phosphorus-containing carbon dots (PCDs) with strong green fluorescence were synthesized through a facile one-step microwave assisted approach using phosphorus-rich phytic acid as source. Owing to their and low cytotoxicity, the PCDs are promising bio-imaging agents.

Zwitterionic nanogels of varying stiffness were prepared by tuning their cross-linking densities and reactant contents. In vivo studies these show that softer pass through physiological barriers, especially the splenic filtration, more easily than stiffer counterparts, consequently leading to longer circulation half-life lower accumulation. Results from this work emphasize role in designing long-circulating nanoparticles.

The chronic infections by pathogenic Pseudomonas aeruginosa (P. aeruginosa) remain to be properly addressed. In particular, for drug-resistant strains, limited medication is available. An in vivo pneumonia model induced a clinically isolated aminoglycoside resistant strain of P. developed. Tobramycin treating found ineffective inhibit or eliminate this strain. Here, newly developed non-antibiotics based nanoformulation plus near-infrared (NIR) photothermal treatment shows remarkable...

Understanding psychology is an important task in modern society which helps predict human behavior and provide feedback accordingly. Monitoring of weak psychological emotional changes requires bioelectronic devices to be stretchable compliant for unobtrusive high-fidelity signal acquisition. Thin conductive polymer film regarded as ideal interface; however, it very challenging simultaneously balance mechanical robustness opto-electrical property. Here, a 40 nm-thick based on...

Nanomaterials that integrate functions of imaging and gene delivery have been great interest due to their potential use in simultaneous diagnosis therapy. Herein, polycation-b-polysulfobetaine block copolymer, poly[2-(dimethylamino) ethyl methacrylate]-b-poly[N-(3-(methacryloylamino) propyl)-N,N-dimethyl-N-(3-sulfopropyl) ammonium hydroxide] (PDMAEMA-b-PMPDSAH) grafted luminescent carbon dots (CDs) were prepared via surface-initiated atom transfer radical polymerization (ATRP) investigated...

Inspired by stimuli-responsive remarkable changes in consistency (hardening, softening, autolysis) of sea cucumbers, we synthesized a supramolecular polymer(SP) hydrogel directly photoinitiated aqueous polymerization N-acryloyl 2-glycine monomer bearing one amide and carboxyl group on the side chain. The SP hydrogels doped with Ca2+ demonstrated excellent mechanical properties–high tensile strength (∼1.3 MPa), large stretchability (up to 2300%), high compressive (∼10.8 good toughness (∼1000...

Nonionic polyethylene glycol (PEG) as a stealth polymer destabilizes liposomes due to its amphiphilic property. As result, PEGylated have be further stabilized, such by using large amount cholesterol. This is long existing dilemma faced PEG. In this work, we show that zwitterionic poly(carboxybetaine) (PCB) stabilizes because of superhydrophilic nature, thus solving dilemma. Specifically, PCB-modified without cholesterol exhibited good retention hydrophilic drug and blood circulating...
