Mechanical loading and hydrostatic pressure (HP) regulate chondrocytes' metabolism; however, how mechanical stimulation acts remain unclear. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) play an important role in cartilage homeostasis, mechanotransduction, the pathogenesis of osteoarthritis (OA). This study investigated effects a cyclic HP (1-5 MPa), both normal OA human chondrocytes, on expression miR-27a/b, miR-140, miR-146a/b, miR-365, their target genes (MMP-13, ADAMTS-5, IGFBP-5, HDAC-4). Furthermore, we assessed...

Abstract The application of porous hydroxyapatite (HAp)‐collagen as a bone tissue engineering scaffold represents new trend mimicking the specific extracellular matrix (ECM). use HAp in reconstructive surgery has shown that it is slowly invaded by host tissue. Therefore, implant compatibility may be augmented seeding cells before implantation. Human primary osteoblasts were seeded onto innovative collagen‐gelatin‐genipin (GP)‐HAp scaffolds containing respectively 10%, 20%, and 30% HAp....

Background . The sensitivity and the specificity of different methods to detect periprosthetic infection have been questioned. current study aimed investigate kinetics C-reactive protein (CRP) procalcitonin (PCT) in patients undergoing uncomplicated elective total hip arthroplasty (THA), provide a better interpretation their levels noninfectious inflammatory reaction. Methods A 51 were included. Serum CRP PCT concentrations obtained before surgery, on 1st, 3rd, 7th postoperative days after...

Purpose This study aims to analyze the risk factors and type of injuries occurring in Taekwondo athletes participating a national competition. Methods Out 127 competitors, 18 got injured during championship who were analyzed for following parameters: modality training; age, weight; belt color; injury. Results Around 89% due bruising found mainly on lower limbs (61%) elimination rounds first match day. The higher probability injury was second round (56%), day (72%). Nearly all able complete...

Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most frequent joint disease, characterized by degradation of extracellular matrix and alterations in chondrocyte metabolism. Some authors reported that electromagnetic fields (EMFs) can positively interfere with patients affected OA, even though nature interaction still debated. Human primary osteoarthritic chondrocytes isolated from femoral heads OA-patients undergoing to total hip replacement, were cultured vitro exposed 30 min/day for two weeks...

To investigate if a locking intramedullary nail could be useful in the treatment of fractures humeral head 3 and 4-fragments operated within 48 h from trauma. During period February 2011–May 2013, we performed 21 cases treated with Polarus (Acumed). We considered parameters such as age, sex, time radiological healing functional outcome, which were assessed by Constant shoulder score, University California at Los Angeles Oxford score Dash score. Introduction . The periprosthetic fracture of the femur is, in order frequency, fourth leading cause (5.9%) surgical revision. Our study aims to demonstrate how grafting bone splint betters outcomes. Materials We treated 15 femoral fractures divided into two groups: PS composed 8 patients with plates and splints PSS involving 7 only plates. evaluation criteria for groups during clinical radiological follow-up were quality life measured by Short Form (36) Health Survey (SF-36), Harris Hip...
