Abstract Therapeutic hypothermia (TH) initiated within 6 h from birth is the most effective therapeutic approach for moderate to severe hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE). However, underlying mechanisms and effects on human metabolism are not yet fully understood. This work aims at studying evolution of several energy related key metabolites in newborns with HIE undergoing TH employing gas chromatography – mass spectrometry. The method was validated following stringent FDA requirements...

Cerebral oximetry using near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) provides continuous, noninvasive assessment of the degree hemoglobin saturation brain tissue. Previous studies suggest that high values regional cerebral tissue oxygen (rScO2) during first days in neonates with significant hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) are correlated an adverse neurological outcome. However, results not consistent among studies. To examine correlation rScO2 and their variability over time HIE severity,...

Estudio prospectivo cuasiexperimental. Diseño implantación uso LVS valoración utilidad detección...

Fournier’s gangrene is a necrotizing fasciitis of the scrotal and inguinal region, associating high mortality complication rates. It extremely rare in neonatal period may be life threatening. We present an exceptional case 24-day-old boy who consulted to emergency department for fever (39 °C) indurated, fluctuating painful erythema both groins, left hemiscrotum, anterior femoral region perineum last 6 hours. Blood analysis showed increased acute phase reactants without leukocytosis....

Introduction Urea cycle disorders (UCDs) form a group of metabolic pathological conditions that might develop serious neurological consequences. Early diagnosis, before irreversible damage is established, the most important prognostic and morbidity factor. Case Report We present case 5-day newborn with high blood pressure respiratory distress. Diagnosis was type I citrullinemia. With appropriate citrullinemia guided-treatment returned to normal. Conclusion High has been rarely described as...

Magnesium sulphate (MgSO4) therapy has shown to be useful as a neurological protector in the preterm newborn below 32 weeks of gestation. The most documented adverse effect is cardiorespiratory failure, whereas its relationship with meconium obstruction controversial. main objective this study was analyse possible association between prenatal MgSO4 and obstruction. An analytical retrospective conducted on <32 babies admitted tertiary-level hospital (January 2016-December 2017)....

Hypothermia treatment has improved the prognosis of asphyxiated neonates. Widely used, it demonstrated to be safe without severe side effects. The aim this article is review incidence stridor amongst newborns treated with hypothermia in our unit.Retrospective chart patients.Stridor was presented 7/75 (9.3%) patients during hypothermia. Three received whole body hypothermia, 3 selective cerebral, and one case both techniques were used. All cases required increased respiratory...
