To investigate the efficacy of systemic pulmonary rehabilitation (PR) after lung resection in patients with cancer.Forty-one undergoing were enrolled and classified into experimental (n=31) control groups (n=10). The group underwent post-operative PR which was conducted 30 min/day on every hospitalization day by an expert physical therapist. received same education about exercises encouraged to self-exercise without supervision taught a self-PR program feedback provided regularly until 6...
We explored whether a mechanically-assisted squat exercise improved muscle mass, function, and pulmonary function in elderly women with or without sarcopenia. In total, 76 community-dwelling subjects (>60 years of age) were screened. ultimately included 30 who completed more than 80% the six-week course exercises (three days per week, min day). measured body composition, lung knee extensor strength, hand grip 3-min walk distance (3MWD) before after program. Subjects sarcopenia had poor...
To investigate the coexistence rate and related factors of developmental dysplasia hip (DDH) congenital muscular torticollis (CMT), to determine whether ultrasonography (US) gives good value for screening DDH in CMT.We prospectively examined 121 infants (73 males 48 females) diagnosed with CMT incidence by US. We also assessed relationship between neck US findings occurrence, investigated clinical features DDH.18 patients (14.9%) were as having However, most was subclinical spontaneously...
To investigate the effect of botulinum toxin type A (BTA) injection into salivary gland and to evaluate changes drooling in varied postures tetraplegic patients with brain injury.Eight injury were enrolled. BTA was injected each parotid submandibular both sides under ultrasonographic guidance. Drooling measured by a questionnaire-based scoring system for severity frequency, sialorrhea modified Schirmer test before injection, 3 weeks months after injection. evaluated posture, such as supine,...
Birth brachial plexus palsy (BBPP) is usually caused by traction during difficult delivery. Although the possibility of complete recovery relatively high, 5% to 25% BBPP cases result in prolonged and persistent disability. In particular, muscle imbalance co-contraction around shoulder elbow cause abnormal motor performance, osseous deformities, joint contracture. Physical occupational therapies have most commonly been used, but these conventional therapeutic strategies often inadequate,...
Objective To compare the urodynamic study variables at onset of vesicoureteral reflux (VUR) between overactive and underactive bladders in patients with spinal cord injury who presented VUR. Methods A total 28 (13 cases detrusor overactivity 15 underactivity) men were enrolled. We compared two groups; pressure bladder compliance, infused volume VUR measured on a voiding cystourethrography cystometric capacity, maximum pressure, compliance during filling cystometry recorded. Results At VUR,...
Introduction Several studies have suggested that physical activity and sedentary behavior are strongly independently associated with body composition obesity. However, few investigated whether substituting time moderate-to-vigorous is in older adults, especially among those than 75 years. Methods This study examined the associations between replacing obesity indices a sample of 199 community-dwelling Taiwanese adults (52.3% women; 80.6 ± 7.0 years). Physical were measured using triaxial...
To establish a correlation between the modified Ashworth scale (MAS) and amplitude latency of T-reflex to demonstrate inter-rater intra-rater reliability biceps muscle for assessing spasticity after stroke.A total 21 patients with hemiplegia ischemic stroke were enrolled this study. The was evaluated by an occupational therapist using MAS. mean value manual test muscles 2.3±0.79. Latency recorded from two physicians. onset peak 5 big measured. examinations carried out physicians at same time...
Objective Cricothyroid (CT) muscle twitch inspection with neurostimulation is a widely accepted method to identify the external branch of superior laryngeal nerve (EBSLN) and its integrity in thyroid surgery. However, there has been no large‐scale research evaluate diagnostic values CT based on postoperative electromyography (EMG) results, which are considered gold standard. In this study, we aimed demonstrate value EMG. Study Design Prospective cohort study. Methods A total 454 patients...
Purpose: Information and communication technology (ICT)-based training devices for older adults’ care related to dementia are being developed enhance cognitive functions. Older adults who require bicycle can improve muscle strength balance of lower limbs by continuously contracting relaxing lower-limb muscles improving function prevent dementia. This study was conducted investigate the effects an ICT-based multicomponent program on body composition in adults. Patients Methods: In a...
The mechanisms and functional anatomy underlying the early stages of speech perception are still not well understood. Auditory agnosia is a deficit auditory object processing defined as disability to recognize spoken languages and/or nonverbal environmental sounds music despite adequate hearing while spontaneous speech, reading writing preserved. Usually, either bilateral or unilateral temporal lobe, especially transverse gyral lesions, responsible for agnosia. Subcortical lesions without...
Background/objectivesTo report two cases of reversible posterior leukoencephalopathy syndrome (RPLS) in patients with traumatic cervical spinal cord injury.DesignCase report.SettingRehabilitation Inpatient Unit, Pusan National University Hospital, Yangsan-si, Korea.ResultsTwo men spastic tetraplegia developed autonomic dysreflexia. Use antihypertensive medication and Foley catheter insertion prevented further episodes acute arterial hypertension development new symptoms.ConclusionRPLS can...
To evaluate the care status of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) patients with long-term use tracheostomy tube by caregivers ALS patients.A survey was conducted in form questionnaires to and their caregivers. All measurements were performed two visiting nurses. For statistical analysis, SPSS ver. 22.0 Mann-Whitney U test on non-normal distribution used.In total, 19 (15 males 4 females) participated survey. In case patients, average duration 5.9±3.7 years, mean periods illness 5.3±3.2 years...
The Symptom Checklist - Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Scale (SCL-PTSD), also known as Crime-Related PTSD has been validated in survivors of interpersonal trauma the general population. However, psychometric properties have not investigated a clinical setting for patients with from diverse traumatic events. This study investigates reliability and validity Korean version SCL-PTSD among 104 psychiatric outpatients PTSD, caused by (n = 50) or non-interpersonal 54). Self-report data SCL-PTSD,...
Background: Ocular motor dysfunction is common in patients with head trauma. Also, traumatic lateral gaze palsy usually associated brain stem lesion, peripheral nerve injury or without basilar skull fracture and rectus muscle entrapment. However, isolated bilateral abducens extremely rare.Case study: This study describes a case of 35-year-old male trauma cervical fractures. He was diagnosed mild diffuse axonal injury. During his assessment, he developed limb weakness, an ataxic gait impaired...
A 25-yr-old female tetraplegic patient experienced autonomic dysreflexia episodes involving hypertension, headache, facial flushing, and tachycardia. The symptoms were not related to the bladder or bowel. did seem be linked any mechanical cause. was incidentally diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. Treatment antithyroid medication resulted in resolution of dysreflexia. This case suggests that hyperthyroidism may trigger patients.
Injury to the external branches of superior laryngeal nerve (EBSLN) is main reported cause inexplicable post-thyroidectomy dysphonia (PTD) without recurrent (RLN) injury. Loré proposed a retrograde thyroidectomy (RT) technique in which pole dissected as final step after Berry ligament division, making this approach advantageous for protecting EBSLN. However, evidence protective effect remains insufficient. We aimed evaluate EBSLN function following RT and conventional (CT) using...
Background: Candida esophagitis is a rare disease, but its incidence higher in patients with impaired immunity due to an underlying disease. Patients candida usually present lower retrosternal pain or dysphagia, they are sometimes asymptomatic. Several risk factors, including diabetes mellitus, malignancies, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and steroid therapy, have been shown be associated esophagitis. may mimic other processes can thus misdiagnosed.Case study: This study...
