Dynamic aperture (DA) is one of the key nonlinear properties for a storage ring. Although there have been both analytical and numerical methods to find aperture, reverse problem how optimize it still challenging problem. A general flexible way optimizing DA highly demanded in accelerator design operation. In this paper, we discuss use multiobjective optimization DA. First consider using objective functions based only on tracking results. Data mining these results demonstrated correlation...

The duration of the x-ray pulse generated at a synchrotron light source is typically tens picoseconds. Shorter pulses are highly desired by users. In electron storage rings, vertical beam size usually orders magnitude less than bunch length due to radiation damping; therefore, shorter can be obtained slitting vertically tilted bunch. Zholents proposed tilting using rf deflection. We found that bunches also dipole magnet kick. A tilt developed after kick in presence nonzero chromaticity. was...

We show that X-ray pulses one order of magnitude shorter than the electron bunch length can be obtained through synchrobetatron coupling. A 6-ps rms visible light pulse from a 30-ps was observed using streak camera. Theory, simulation, and experimental results are presented.

National Synchrotron Light Source II (NSLS-II) is a new third-generation storage ring light source at Brookhaven Laboratory. The design calls for small horizontal emittance (<1 nm-rad) and diffraction-limited vertical 12 keV (8 pm-rad). Achieving low value of the beam size will enable novel user experiments with nm-range spatial meV-energy resolution. high-brightness NSLS-II lattice has been realized by implementing 30-cell double bend achromatic cells producing 2 nm rad then halving it...

The National Synchrotron Light Source II (NSLS-II) is a state of the art 3 GeV third generation light source at Brookhaven Laboratory. During spring/ summer 2014, storage ring was commissioned up to 50 mA without insertion devices. In fall we began commissioning project beamlines, which included seven devices on six ID ports. Beamlines IXS, HXN, CSX-1, CSX-2, CHX, SRX, and XPD-1 consist elliptically polarized undulator (EPU), damping wigglers (DW) in-vacuum undulators (IVU) covering from VUV...

There is growing interest within the user community to utilize pulsed nature of synchrotron radiation from storage ring sources. Conventional third-generation light sources can provide pulses on order 100 ps but typically cannot about 1 that some users now require advance their research programs. However, it was recently proposed by A. Zholents et al. use rf orbit deflection generate sub-ps x-ray [1]. In this scheme, two crab cavities are used deliver a longitudinally dependent vertical kick...

We show that the quadrupole-mode transfer function (QTF) is a powerful nondestructive tool to measure properties of dynamical systems. In particular, we discuss feasibility using QTF betatron tunes and beam emittances with beam-position monitor system. The can also be used compensate optical mismatch during injection process. However, it less effective than rf dipole method in overcoming intrinsic spin resonances for polarized acceleration.
