Delirium is common after cardiac surgery, and preoperative identification of high-risk patients could guide prevention strategies. We prospectively measured frailty in 55 before surgery assessed postoperative delirium using a validated chart review. The prevalence was 30.9%. Frail had higher incidence (47.1%) compared with nonfrail (2.6%; P < 0.001). In multivariable models, the relative risk ≥2.1-fold greater frail (relative risk, 18.3; 95% confidence interval, 2.1–161.8; = 0.009)....

Abstract Objective Monitoring microcirculation and visualizing microvasculature are critical for providing diagnosis to medical professionals guiding clinical interventions. Ultrasound provides a medium monitoring visualization; however, there challenges due the complex microscale geometry of vasculature difficulties associated with quantifying perfusion. Here, we studied established state‐of‐the‐art ultrasonic modalities (using six probes) compare their detection slow flow in small...

Patients undergoing liver transplantation frequently but inconsistently require massive blood transfusion. The ability to predict transfusion (MT) could reduce the impact on bank resources through customization of order schedule. Current predictive models MT for product utilization during are not generally applicable individual institutions owing variability in patient population, intraoperative management, and definitions MT. Moreover, existing may be limited by incorporating cirrhosis...

When incorporated into the 10-second pulse/rhythm check of advanced life support (ALS) protocol, focused cardiac ultrasound is a useful adjunct to cardiopulmonary resuscitation. In this case series, we demonstrated feasibility echocardiographic assessment using subcostal-only view in ALS (EASy-ALS) performed by anesthesiology residents during periresuscitative period after structured training. Residents obtained diagnostic quality images 100% self-reported cases, which enabled them identify...
