Regulatory T (Treg) cells play a protective role in experimental atherosclerosis. In the present study, we investigated whether levels of circulating Treg relate to degree atherosclerosis carotid and coronary arteries. We studied 2 distinct populations: (1) 113 subjects, selected from free-living population (carotid study), which measured intima-media thickness common artery, as surrogate marker initial atherosclerosis; (2) 75 controls 125 patients with artery disease (coronary study): 36...

Pharmacovigilance related to heart damage is of paramount importance at this early stage massive coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) campaigns identify the profile patients risk. Systemic reactogenicity, which leads systemic adverse events, often occur after second dose. A possible explanation could be molecular mimicry between SARS-CoV-2 viral proteins and cardiac structures or a nonspecific inflammatory response secondary vaccination (1).

Chronic heart failure (CHF) may impair lung gas diffusion, an effect that contributes to exercise limitation. We investigated whether diffusion improvement is a mechanism whereby physical training increases aerobic efficiency in CHF. Patients with CHF (n = 16) were trained (40 min of stationary cycling, 4 times/wk) for 8 wk; similar sedentary patients 15) used as controls. Training increased (DlCO, +25%), alveolar-capillary conductance (DM, +15%), pulmonary capillary blood volume (VC, +10%),...

AimsPulmonary hypertension, a marker of poor prognosis in heart failure, may develop or increase during exercise. We sought to examine the determinants pulmonary hypertension at rest and exercise failure patients.

In chronic heart failure (CHF) patients, the ventilation (Ve) needed to eliminate metabolically produced CO(2) during exercise (i.e. Ve/Vco(2) slope) is a strong prognosticator. slope determinants are dead space-tidal volume (Vd/Vt) ratio and arterial partial pressure (Paco(2)). We aimed at defining respective prognostic role of these two variables. One hundred twenty-eight stable CHF patients (average left ventricular ejection fraction 34+/-10%) underwent cardiopulmonary testing blood gas...

ABSTRACT Background Evidence regarding drug‐coated balloon (DCB)‐only angioplasty in de novo lesions of large vessels is still limited and mainly focused on paclitaxel‐coated balloon. We aimed to analyze the safety efficacy sirolimus‐coated (SCB)‐only compared drug‐eluting stent (DES). Methods In this retrospective, dual‐center, case‐control study, we enrolled all consecutive patients treated between January 2022 2024 with SCB‐only lesion vessel (> 2.75 mm) a propensity‐score matched...

The diagnosis of chronic total occlusion (CTO), characterized by the complete obstruction a coronary artery for at least three months, remains challenging and can be entirely asymptomatic. Since indications performing recanalization procedure CTO do not originate from randomized controlled trials, this study aimed to assess indications, management, procedural outcomes patients undergoing percutaneous revascularization (PCI) CTO, ensuring that population was as uniform possible regarding...

Heart failure (HF) is a complex syndrome characterized by myocardial dysfunction and poor prognosis. Among multiple markers of severity, an exercise ventilation inefficiency has important clinical prognostic value. The pathophysiology determining ventilatory not definitively clarified. Three different mechanisms have been identified: (i) increased dead space, (ii) early occurrence lactic acidosis, (iii) abnormal chemoreflex and/or metaboreflex activity. Besides its value, can be influenced...

Abstract Recent clinical and demographical studies on COVID-19 patients have demonstrated that men experience worse outcomes than women. However, in most cases, the data were not stratified according to gender, limiting understanding of real impact gender outcomes. Background Chronic heart failure (CHF) may be associated with a disordered nitric oxide (NO)–mediated regulation of the pulmonary vessel tone and permeability gas transfer across alveolar-capillary membrane. Whether enhancement NO availability is beneficial regard to these functions has not been explored. Phosphodiesterase 5 inhibitors, such as sildenafil, provide tool which test this possibility.
