Coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19), which started in Wuhan, China, December 2019 and declared a worldwide pandemic on March 11, 2020, is novel infectious disease that causes respiratory illness death. Pediatric COVID-19 accounts for small percentage of patients often milder than adults; however, it can progress to severe some cases. Even neonates suffer from COVID-19, children may spread the community. This review summarizes what currently known about adolescents.
Abnormal angiogenesis is a primary cause of many eye diseases, including diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, and retinopathy prematurity. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are currently being investigated as treatment for several such retinal diseases based on their neuroprotective angiogenic potentials. In this study, we evaluated the role systemically injected human placental amniotic membrane-derived MSCs (AMSCs) pathological neovascularization proliferative retinopathy....
Patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) are susceptible to infectious diseases owing various immunosuppressive treatments and disease characteristics. Meningococcal infections progress rapidly a high incidence of severe complications mortality; therefore, meningococcal vaccination is needed. However, there limited evidence regarding the immunity immunogenicity patients SLE. This study aimed analyze serum bactericidal activity against meningococci in SLE two domestic institutions...
Background Staphylococcus pseudintermedius is a Gram‐positive bacteria that colonizes the skin and orifices of healthy canines felines. It has recently been identified as cause sinonasal infections in humans. Methods This study was retrospective review chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) patients with S ‒positive cultures comparison to prospectively collected control sample who underwent culture for acute exacerbation CRS. Results Thirty‐three CRS had nasal positive . Of cultures, 82% demonstrated...

Cross-reactivity of pneumococcal capsular polysaccharides is a key element for formulating vaccines and evaluating vaccine efficacy. This study examined whether 23-valent polysaccharide (PPSV23), which only contains 6B, can elicit cross-functional immune responses against recently discovered serotypes (6C 6D), as well 6A, in 2 adult age groups.Young adults (25-51 years; N = 28) elderly subjects (over 65 60) were immunized with PPSV23. Functional antibody determined pre- postimmune sera via...
In this study, we show that Mycobacterium avium subsp. paratuberculosis MAP1305 induces the maturation of bone marrow-derived dendritic cells (BMDCs), a representative antigen presenting cell (APC). protein DC and production pro-inflammatory cytokines (Interleukin (IL)-6), tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-<TEX>${\alpha}$</TEX>, IL-<TEX>$1{\beta}$</TEX>) through Toll like receptor-4 (TLR-4) signaling by directly binding with TLR4. activates phosphorylation MAPKs, such as ERK, p38MAPK, JNK, which...
Antibodies against Hepatitis A and B Virus in Intravenous Immunoglobulin ProductsThe worldwide seroprevalence of hepatitis virus (HAV) (HBV) has changed over the last two decades, indicating a declining incidence HAV HBV infections. Therefore, vaccinations are recommended for unimmunized people before traveling to an endemic area.Unfortunately, primary antibody deficiency (PAD) patients can only obtain humoral immunity through intravenous immunoglobulin G (IVIG) replacement not from...
Herpes zoster (HZ) is caused by latent varicella-zoster virus (VZV) reactivation when VZV-specific cell-mediated immunity declines. Information on HZ in children limited. Therefore, we retrospectively investigated HZ's clinical course and complications children. We extracted the outpatient hospitalization medical records of pediatric patients (<19 years) primarily diagnosed with (ICD-10 B02 code) between January 2010 November 2020. was defined as a typical unilateral dermatomal vesicular...
The meningococcus carriage rate is age-dependent, with a high prevalence in adolescents and young adults. This cross-sectional study aimed to estimate the oropharyngeal of among healthy Korean its relationship several population characteristics. survey was conducted from April May 2015 1,460 first-year high-school students 9 schools located Gyeonggi province, Korea. Each student answered short questionnaire assessing risk factors for carriage, posterior pharyngeal wall swab samples were...
Abstract Background: Although MMR vaccine is widely used in Korea, there are limited studies on the currently vaccines. We evaluated immunogenicity and safety of vaccines Korean children. Methods: For first second dose immunization, children aged 12–23 months 4–6 years were enrolled. All subjects received a single either Priorix™ (Glaxo Smithkline Biologicals, Rixensart, Belgium) or MMRII® (Merck & Co., Inc., West Point, PA, USA). Pre‐ postvaccine sera collected from all participants....
Intravenous immunoglobulin G (IVIG) replacement therapy is used to prevent invasive infections in patients with primary antibody deficiency (PAD). However, few studies have functionally evaluated specific antibodies against encapsulated bacteria that cause infection PAD. In this study, functional Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib), Streptococcus pneumoniae (pneumococci), and Neisseria meningitidis (meningococci) IVIG were evaluated.Sixteen lots of products prepared by two Korean...
The pneumococcal capsule is indispensable for pathogenesis in systemic infections; however, many diseases, including conjunctivitis, otitis media, and some infections immunocompromised patients, are caused by nonencapsulated Streptococcus pneumoniae (NESp). Null clade 1 (NCC1), found group 2 NESp, expresses surface protein K (PspK) becoming prevalent among organisms owing to the widespread use of conjugate vaccines. Despite its clinical importance, molecular mechanisms underlying prevalence...
The protective capacities of antibodies induced with Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) vaccines can be directly assessed in vitro a Hib-specific serum bactericidal assay (SBA). However, the conventional SBA requires several tedious steps including manual counting bacterial colonies, and therefore, it is seldom used.To overcome these limitations, we have improved by using frozen target bacteria developing an automated colony method based on agar plates chromogenic dye 2, 3, 5-triphenyl...
Seroprevalences of Specific IgG Antibodies to Measles, Mumps, and Rubella in Korean InfantsIn this study, the seroprevalences measles, mumps, rubella antibodies infants were determined assess immunization strategy control measures for these infectious diseases.Serum samples from < 1 year age their mothers collected measure concentrations specific by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. For selected infant serum samples, measles-specific neutralizing antibody levels using plaque reduction...
