Propolis is one of the most fascinating honey bee (Apis mellifera L.) products. It a plant derived product that bees produce from resins they collect different organs and with which mix beeswax. building material protective agent in hive. also plays an important role social immunity, widely used by humans as ingredient nutraceuticals, over-the-counter preparations cosmetics. Its chemical composition varies geographic location, climatic zone local flora. The understanding diversity propolis...
The extract and essential oil of clove (Syzygium aromaticum) are widely used because their medicinal properties. Eugenol is the most important component clove, showing several biological Herein we have analysed immunomodulatory/anti-inflammatory effect eugenol on cytokine production (interleukin (IL)-1β, IL-6 IL-10) in vitro.Macrophages were incubated with or (5, 10, 25, 50 100µg/well) for 24h. Concentrations that inhibited cytokines before after incubation lipopolysaccharide (LPS), to...
Propolis is a bee product and its immunomodulatory action has been the subject of intense investigation lately. The recent discovery characterization family Toll-like receptors (TLR) have triggered great deal interest in field innate immunity due to their crucial role microbial recognition development adaptive immune response. This work aimed evaluate propolis's effect on TLR-2 TLR-4 expression production pro-inflammatory cytokines (IL-1beta IL-6). Male BALB/c mice were treated with propolis...
Humanity has benefited from bee products over the centuries for treating and preventing various illnesses, apitherapy been employed in several countries as a complementary medicine. This review aimed to discuss scientific research clinical trials using their relationship with apitherapy. Scientific researches based on studies carried out vitro different cell cultures, vivo studying mice or other experimental animals are discussed. Clinical also documented. The most common applications of...
Propolis has been the subject of several recent studies, with aim elucidating its biological and pharmacological properties. a well-known antimicrobial activity as well antioxidant, antitumoral, antiinflammatory, regenerative properties, but literature about effects on immune response is scarce. The goal this work was to evaluate propolis effect macrophage activation by oxygen (H2O2) nitrogen (NO) metabolite determination. produced africanized honeybees hydroalcoholic solutions were prepared...
Abstract Propolis and plant secretions from three species, most frequently mentioned as botanical sources of the bee glue in Brazil (Baccharis dracunculifolia, Araucaria angustifolia Eucalyptus citriodora) have been investigated using GC-MS. Based on chemical evidence, B. dracunculifolia was shown to be main propolis source São Paulo state. The antibacterial antifungal activities all four materials were also tested, active being Baccharis leaf exudate.
The aim of this work was to evaluate the antiviral activities Baccharis dracunculifolia (extract and essential oil), propolis some isolated compounds (caffeic cinnamic acids) against poliovirus type 1 (PV1) replication in HEp-2 cells.Three different protocols (pre-, simultaneous post-treatments) were used verify effect addition time variables on PV1 by crystal violet method relative viral RNA quantification real-time PCR for analysing which step virus could interfere.Data revealed that B....
Cymbopogon citratus (DC) Stapf (Poaceae-Gramineae), an herb commonly known as lemongrass (LG), is important source of ethnomedicines well citral, the major constituent citratus, used in perfumery, cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries for controlling pathogens. Thus, goal this work was to analyze effect LG citral on cytokines production (IL-1β, IL-6 IL-10) vitro, before or after LPS incubation.Peritoneal macrophages from BALB/c mice were treated with different concentrations 24h. The that...
Abstract Propolis is a honeybee product with several biological and therapeutical properties. Its effect on the process of colon carcinogenesis DNA damage were evaluated in male Wistar rats using aberrant crypt foci (ACF) assay comet assay, respectively. For both tests, animals treated carcinogen 1,2 dimethylhydrazine (DMH, 40 mg/kg, s.c.) for 2 weeks (two injections/week) order to induce ACF. The divided into groups that received propolis (ethanolic extract) at three different doses (10,...
The goal of this work was to investigate a possible synergistic effect between ethanolic extracts propolis from Brazil and Bulgaria some antibiotics (Amoxicillin, Ampicillin Cefalexin) against Salmonella Typhi. Brazilian Bulgarian showed an antibacterial action, but the sample shown be more efficient. Both samples similar with these antibiotics. One may conclude that show important as well
Propolis effect on the growth and apoptosis of human lung adenocarcinoma (A549 cells) was investigated as well its mechanisms.Cells were incubated with propolis for 72 h, 3-(4,5- dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide lactate dehydrogenase assays employed to assess cell viability inhibitory concentration (IC). Apoptosis detected by Acridine Orange/Ethidium Bromide 4',6-diamidino-2-phenylindole staining after 24 48 h incubation ¼ IC50 testing mitochondrial membrane potential...
