Chromosome errors, or aneuploidy, affect an exceptionally high number of human conceptions, causing pregnancy loss and congenital disorders. Here, we have followed chromosome segregation in oocytes from females aged 9 to 43 years report that aneuploidy follows a U-curve. Specific error types show different age dependencies, providing quantitative explanation for the Whole-chromosome nondisjunction events are preferentially associated with increased young girls, whereas centromeric more...
Aneuploidy in human eggs is the leading cause of pregnancy loss and Down’s syndrome. Aneuploid result from chromosome segregation errors when an egg develops a progenitor cell, called oocyte. The mechanisms that lead to increase aneuploidy with advanced maternal age are largely unclear. Here, we show many sister kinetochores oocytes separated do not behave as single functional unit during first meiotic division. Having allowed bivalents rotate by 90 degrees on spindle increased risk...
Chromosome segregation errors during female meiosis are a leading cause of pregnancy loss and human infertility. The chromosomes is driven by interactions between spindle microtubules kinetochores. Kinetochores in mammalian oocytes subjected to special challenges: they need withstand microtubule pulling forces over multiple hours built on centromeric chromatin that humans decades old. In I, sister kinetochores paired oriented toward the same pole. It well established progressively separate...
Abstract Organs have a distinctive yet often overlooked spatial arrangement in the body 1–5 . We propose that there is logic to shape of an organ and its proximity neighbours. Here, by using volumetric scans many Drosophila melanogaster flies, we develop methods quantify three-dimensional features shape, position interindividual variability. find both shapes organs their relative are consistent differ between sexes, identify unexpected interorgan adjacencies left–right asymmetries. Focusing...
Abstract DNA double-strand breaks (DSBs) are toxic to mammalian cells. However, during meiosis, more than 200 DSBs generated deliberately, ensure reciprocal recombination and orderly segregation of homologous chromosomes. If left unrepaired, meiotic can cause aneuploidy in gametes compromise viability offspring. Oocytes which persist therefore eliminated by the DNA-damage checkpoint. Here we show that checkpoint eliminates oocytes via pro-apoptotic BCL-2 pathway members Puma , Noxa Bax ....
Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has created a hiatus in in-person clinical assessments due to safety and logistical concerns. We aimed evaluate student perception utility of an online Integrated Structured Clinical Examinations (ISCEs) during the pandemic. Methods: Final-year medical students from single institution were offered mock ISCE through student-to-student ("near-peer") teaching-programme. A questionnaire-based cross-sectional study was conducted pre- post-online ISCE. Results:...
(Abstracted from Science 2019;365:1466–1469) While it is understood that young females (≥13 years to early 20s) and women of advancing maternal age (AMA, mid-30s or older) have reduced fertility rates, the exact mechanisms behind this feature curve remain unclear. Because chromosomal errors aneuploidy cause a significant amount pregnancy loss congenital disorders in advanced age, meiotic error rates throughout entire reproductive life span may shape natural fertility.
To ascertain whether remote multimodality cardiovascular monitoring of health in pregnancy is feasible, 24 participants were asked to daily monitor body weight, heart rate, blood pressure, activity levels, and sleep patterns. Study took on average 4.3 (standard deviation = 2.20) home recordings each modality per week across the 3 trimesters 2.0 postpartum 2.41), out a recommended maximum 7. Thus, indicative throughout after might be feasible for routine clinical care or within context research study.

In 2020, final year medical students applying for the United Kingdom's competitive academic training posts face an additional challenge because interviews are conducted online rather than in-person. We assessed how this new format influences anxiety and impact of a targeted course on candidates' confidence levels.A mixed-methods national teaching programme including bespoke mock was delivered to prospective Academic Foundation Programme applicants. Pre- post-interview questionnaires levels...
Abstract Aneuploidy in eggs is a leading cause of miscarriages or viable developmental syndromes. rates differ between individual chromosomes. For instance, chromosome 21 frequently missegregates, resulting Down Syndrome. What causes chromosome-specific aneuploidy meiosis unclear. Chromosome belongs to the class acrocentric chromosomes, whose centromeres are located close end, one long and short arm. We demonstrate that chromosomes generally more often aneuploid than metacentric porcine...

Current antenatal care largely relies on widely spaced appointments, hence only a fraction of the pregnancy period is subject to monitoring. Continuous monitoring physiological parameters could represent paradigm shift in obstetric care. Here, we analyse data from daily home and consider implications this approach for tracking health.Prospective feasibility study continuous blood pressure, weight, heart rate, sleep activity patterns first trimester 6 weeks postpartum.Fourteen out 24 women...

This study is an attempt to collect data concerning cases of abortions induced due medical reasons. Although Polish legislation allows a possibility terminate pregnancy, information presented in literature still does not explain, clear and comprehensive way, what the indications for such procedures are.
