Abstract. Analysis of 1,620 basal cell carcinomas treated at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation from 1981 to 1983 confirms that majority occur on face and relative risk for recurrent tumor is high in certain locations, especially nose. Alternately, tumors found neck/scalp, trunk, arms have a low recurrence when compared all other anatomic locations. More primary fewer now presenting our unit been referred Mohs surgery as therapy. This results higher cure rates treatment carcinoma.
The use of methotrexate in psoriasis has recently been questioned because possible carcinogenic potential. Two hundred twenty-four patients began therapy during 1960 to 1965 at the Cleveland Clinic and Duke University Medical Center. incidence malignant neoplasms mortality studied 205 these 224 patients. Mortality increased with hepatic disease. No total internal malignancy was found, nor did any one type neoplasm appear predominant. (<i>JAMA</i>232:359-362, 1975)
Abstract Recent advances in base editing have created an exciting opportunity to precisely correct disease-causing mutations. However, the large size of editors and their inherited off-target activities pose challenges for vivo editing. Moreover, requirement a protospacer adjacent motif (PAM) nearby mutation site further limits targeting feasibility. Here we modify NG-targeting adenine editor (iABE-NGA) overcome these demonstrate high efficiency edit Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) adult...
C. elegans neurons were thought to be non-spiking until our recent discovery of action potentials in the sensory neuron AWA; however, extent which nervous system relies on analog or digital coding is unclear. Here we show that enteric motor AVL and DVB fire synchronous all-or-none calcium-mediated following intestinal pacemaker during rhythmic defecation behavior. fires unusual compound with each depolarizing calcium spike mediated by UNC-2 followed a hyperpolarizing potassium...
Superpulsed carbon dioxide lasers emit a controlled train of short duration, high-power pulses which minimize the protein coagulation effects laser. Very high irradiances can be used with superb control vaporization without significant peripheral heating. In incisional work, superpulsing permits surgeon to advance hand piece as slowly and accurately desired, while experiencing fraction necrosis attendant conventional continuous-wave lasers. vaporizational applications, target tissue volumes...
The physics, technique of use, and results obtained in removal tattoos by a CO2 laser are discussed described.
While the majority of patients with basal cell carcinoma are cured by initial therapeutic approach, high risk who have had recurrences been identified. From April 1976 to November 1979, 811 1,271 cutaneous carcinomas were seen at Mohs' Histographic Surgery Unit Cleveland Clinic Foundation. Of these, 496 represented recurrent carcinomas. Histologic subtype, location tumor, and age patient studied in an attempt identify factors which place for persistent or carcinoma. The physician first sees...
Ten patients with dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans, all of whom had been treated previously by conventional excisional surgery without success, were Mohs micrographic surgery. A team approach utilizing margin control Mohs-trained physicians and reconstruction surgical specialists was employed. Average follow-up exceeds 3 1/2 years, no recurrences. Microscopically controlled excision appears to be the treatment choice for protuberans.
Cutaneous carcinoma of the auricular and periauricular region can be diagnosed early often cured; however, many these tumors become difficult to treat because local spread regional metastasis. We have treated 122 patients with 145 cutaneous carcinomas either Mohs' histographic surgery or conventional excision total microscopic marginal control. Inherent in treatment modalities is construction detailed serial tissue maps for each tumor. From maps, a three-dimensional composite tumor derived,...
In vertebrates, sialylated glycans participate in a wide range of biological processes and affect the development function nervous system. While complexity glycosylation functional redundancy among sialyltransferases provide obstacles for revealing roles sialylation mammals, Drosophila possesses sole vertebrate-type sialyltransferase, sialyltransferase (DSiaT), with significant homology to its mammalian counterparts, suggesting that could be suitable model investigate sialylation. To explore...
Previous studies from others and us have demonstrated that CRISPR genome editing could offer a promising therapeutic strategy to restore dystrophin expression function in the skeletal muscle heart of Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) mouse models. However, long-term efficacy safety genome-editing therapy for DMD has not been well established. We packaged both SaCas9 guide RNA (gRNA) together into one AAVrh.74 vector, injected two such vectors (targeting intron 20 23, respectively) mdx pups...
Gene editing has emerged as an exciting therapeutic development platform for numerous genetic and nongenetic diseases. Targeting lipid-modulating genes such angiopoietin-related protein 3 (ANGPTL3) with gene offers hope a permanent solution to lower cardiovascular disease risks associated hypercholesterolemia.
Many of the standard forms therapy for large or multiple superficial basal cell carcinomas are limited by significant postoperative pain, excessive scarring, and prolonged wound healing time. Combining traditional curettage with carbon dioxide laser vaporization creates a procedure that allows excellent visualization, due to bloodless surgical field produced laser, minimal nonspecific thermal damage, rapid healing, diminished pain. In addition, speed ease which this can be performed allow...
Abstract A technique for treating keloids of the earlobes using a focused carbon dioxide laser and postoperative intralesional steroids with partial healing by secondary intention is described.
Abstract. The carbon dioxide laser can be successfully used in its two different modes of operation to treat rhinophyma a relatively bloodless fashion. With the focused mode, layers excess soft tissue are precisely shaved away until approximate size and shape nose has been achieved. Then with defocused extremely thin vaporized provide final countouring. Minimal blood loss most cases, rapid healing, little postoperative pain significant advantages this technique.
Abstract The technique for using the carbon dioxide laser in vaporization mode to treat multiple lesions of syringoma face without adverse scarring, textural changes, or recurrence is described.
Significance NRG1–ErbB4 signaling is implicated in GABAergic circuit assembly during development and transmission at adulthood. However, it unclear whether phenotypes the adult stage ErbB4 mutant mice result from abnormal neural development. By using two strains of with temporal control deletion expression, we demonstrate that impaired behavior GABA release, whereas deficits due to null mutation were alleviated by restoring expression stage. Together, our results indicate adulthood critical...
