We undertook a randomized clinical trial comparing therapeutic efficacy of the 1-day doxycycline regimen with 5-day josamycin for Mediterranean spotted fever. All 59 patients recovered uneventfully, and results did not significantly differ between two schedules. One-day therapy is an effective, easy, inexpensive treatment. Josamycin useful alternative that may be particularly convenient pregnant women history allergy to tetracyclines.

In order to discriminate between benign and malignant effusions, the value of carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), alpha1-acidglycoprotein (AGP), alpha-fetoprotein (AFP), phosphohexose isomerase (PHI), beta2-microglobulin (B2M) has been estimated in serous effusions a group 106 patients, 30 with 76 effusion. Mean CEA AGP levels were significantly higher than effusions; no significant differences mean PHI, AFP B2M found. level estimations useful for confirming malignancy 27% but only 7.5% all PHI...

Abstract: Rickettsia slovaca , the causative agent of TIBOLA, is transmitted by Dermacentor ticks. marginatus most widely species distributed in northeasler Spain, and wild boar constitutes main host. D. ticks were collected from hunterkilled tested PCR/RFLP. Rickettsial DNA–positive sequenced using ompA PCR primers. The prevalence R. was 17.7%. Other spotted fever group rickettsiae detected ticks, but these not definitely identified.
