In the 8;21 translocation, AML1 gene, located at chromosome band 21q22, is translocated to 8 (q22), where it fused ETO gene and transcribed as a chimeric gene. human homolog of recently cloned mouse pebp2 alpha B, homologous DNA binding subunit polyoma enhancer factor pebp2. also involved in translocation with 3 that seen patients therapy-related acute myeloid leukemia myelodysplastic syndrome chronic myelogenous blast crisis. We have isolated fusion cDNA clone from t(3;21) library derived...
Background: An estimated 10,000 Americans suffer cervical spine injuries each year. More than 800,000 radiographs (CSR) are ordered annually. The human and healthcare costs associated with these enormous especially when diagnosis is delayed. Controversy exists in the literature concerning diagnostic accuracy of CSR, reported sensitivity ranging from 32% to 89%. We sought compare prospectively CT (CCT) CSR initial blunt injury for patients meeting one or more NEXUS criteria. Methods: study...
Abstract Purpose To systematically analyse the differences between cycloplegic and noncycloplegic refractive errors ( RE ) in children to determine if predictive value of categorizing can be improved. Methods Random cluster sampling was used select 6825 aged 4–15 years. Autorefraction performed under both (induced with 1% cyclopentolate drops) conditions. Paired spherical equivalent SE were determined. A general linear model developed whether predicted using , age uncorrected visual acuity...
HOX genes encode transcription factors that control patterning and cell fates. Alterations in expression have been clearly implicated leukemia, but their role most other malignant diseases remains unknown. By using degenerate reverse transcription-PCR subsequent real-time quantitative assays, we examined lung cancer lines, direct tumor-control pairs, bronchial epithelial cultures. As of the HOX9 paralogous group HOXA10 were frequently overexpressed. For HOXB9, confirmed elevated RNA was...
E-cadherin loss in cancer is associated with de-differentiation, invasion, and metastasis. Drosophila DE-cadherin regulated by Wnt/β-catenin signaling, although this has not been demonstrated mammalian cells. We previously reported that expression of WNT7a, encoded on 3p25, was frequently downregulated lung cancer, or β-catenin a poor prognostic feature. Here we show WNT7a both activates via specific mechanism cells involved positive feedback loop. Li + , GSK3β inhibitor, led to induction an...
The t(8;21)(q22;q22) translocation, which fuses the ETO gene on human chromosome 8 with AML1 21 (AML1-ETO), is one of most frequent cytogenetic abnormalities associated acute myelogenous leukemia (AML). It seen in approximately 12 to 15% AML cases and present about 40% a French-American-British classified M2 phenotype. We have generated murine model t(8;21) translocation by retroviral expression AML1-ETO purified hematopoietic stem cells (HSC). Animals reconstituted AML1-ETO-expressing...
Presbyopic contact lens patients with monocular corrections (monovision) see clearly at all distances by virtue of an interocular suppression anisometropic blur that occurs regionally between corresponding retinal areas. This fails to occur small high-contrast targets viewed under low luminance conditions. The effect target size and contrast upon was quantified reducing a bright test spot, binocularly while wearing various plus lenses monocularly, until the out-of-focus image suppressed....
African American individuals are at a higher risk of premature death from cardiovascular diseases than White individuals, with disproportionate attributable uncontrolled hypertension. Given their high use among mobile technologies, including smartphones, show promise in increasing reliable health information access. Culturally tailored (mHealth) interventions may promote hypertension self-management this population.
Purpose. To characterize the epithelial thickness profile and study effects of long-term wear hydrogel lenses on this profile. Methods. A cross-sectional was designed. Epithelial evaluated in 15 subjects who had worn one two types low oxygen transmissibility (Dk) contact for an average 10 years (range, 7–16) compared with a group 18 control never lenses. measured at center four mid-peripheral peripheral locations vertical horizontal meridians cornea using modified optical pachymeter....
Monovision (MV) contact lens correction of presbyopia induces substantial reductions in stereoacuity and small binocular visual acuity (VA). This study examined those effects a group successful unsuccessful MV patients. Compared to performance with full correction, the demonstrated significant losses both functions. These were smaller marginal statistical significance only for stereoacuity. Laterality sighting dominance laterality distance/near had minimal effect on results.
The 8;21 translocation is one of the most common specific rearrangements in acute myelogenous leukemia. We have identified markers (D21S65 and a Not I boundary clone, Not-42, referred to as probe B) flanking chromosome 21 breakpoint (21q22.3) that demonstrate physical linkage normal genomic DNA, by using at least three restriction endonucleases (Not I, Sac II, BssHII), are located not more than 250-280 kilobases apart. Pulsed-field gel analysis DNA from somatic cell hybrids containing...
The binocular depth of focus monovision wearers was compared to the sum two monocularly determined depths focus. Observers fell into three groups based upon ocular sighting dominance. Complete summation monocular observed in subjects without a preferred fixating eye. Subjects who fixate with one eye had difficulty suppressing blur that while target within nonpreferred A third group showed partial Similar patterns accommodative response, measured objectively SRI optometer, were wearing...
One of the advantages suggested for contact lens bifocals over monovision treatment presbyopia is that there may be less impairment binocular function. We evaluated near-point stereopsis on Titmus stereotest 10 presbyopic patients. Testing was done under five conditions; and correction with each four marketed simultaneous bifocal lenses. Simultaneous vision tested produced at least as much reduction in compared to baseline spectacle correction. Repeat testing best near over-refraction a...
