We found that 19 (10.4%) of 183 unvaccinated children hospitalized for COVID-19 pneumonia had autoantibodies (auto-Abs) neutralizing type I IFNs (IFN-α2 in 10 patients: IFN-α2 only three, plus IFN-ω five, and IFN-α2, IFN-β two; nine patients). Seven (3.8%) Abs at least ng/ml one IFN, whereas the other 12 (6.6%) 100 pg/ml. The auto-Abs neutralized both unglycosylated glycosylated IFNs. also detected pg/ml 4 2,267 uninfected (0.2%) 45 (2%). odds ratios (ORs) life-threatening were, therefore,...

Most children and adolescents infected with the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) remain asymptomatic or develop a mild disease 2019 (COVID-19) that usually does not require medical intervention. However, small proportion of pediatric patients clinical condition, multisystem inflammatory in (MIS-C). The involvement epigenetics control immune response viral activity prompted us to carry out an epigenomic study uncover target loci regulated by DNA methylation could...

BACKGROUND:
High-flow nasal cannula (HFNC) is increasingly used to provide respiratory support in infants with bronchiolitis. The delivery of aerosol therapy through a jet nebulizer widely indicated despite its controversial efficacy and poor tolerability.
METHODS:
This randomized cross-over study aimed evaluate the comfort satisfaction using nebulization system integrated into HFNC compared standard practice face mask. COMFORT-Behavior (COMFORT-B) scale, visual analog...

Hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD) is a mild illness caused by enteroviruses (EV), although in some Asian countries, large outbreaks have been reported the last 25 years, with considerable incidence of neurological complications. This study describes epidemiological clinical characteristics EV infections involved HFMD other mucocutaneous symptoms from 2006 to 2020 Spain. EV-positive samples 368 patients were included. species A identified 85.1% those typed EV. Coxsackievirus (CV) A6 was...

Abstract Background The objective of this study was to analyze the effects sedation administration on clinical parameters, comfort status, intubation requirements, and pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) length stay (LOS) in children with acute respiratory failure (ARF) receiving noninvasive ventilation (NIV). Methods Thirteen PICUs Spain participated a prospective, multicenter, observational trial from January December 2021. Children ARF under age five who were NIV included. Clinical...

Abstract Pneumonia stands as the primary cause of death among children under five, yet current diagnosis methods often result in inadequate or unnecessary treatments. Our research seeks to address this gap by identifying host transcriptomic biomarkers blood with definitive viral and bacterial pneumonia. We performed RNA sequencing on 192 prospectively collected whole samples, including 38 controls 154 pneumonia cases, uncovering a 5-transcript signature (genes FAM20A , BAG3 TDRD9 MXRA7 KLF14...

Particle size nebulized is relevant factor determining the efficacy nebulization. We replicated vitro theoretical parameters most widely used bronchiolitis and we compared droplet standard integrated into HFNC.
