Abstract Background and Aim Duodenal ulcers, especially caused by increasingly drug‐resistant Helicobacter pylori , are a concern in Asia. We compared oral vonoprazan versus lansoprazole for efficacy (healing duodenal ulcers) safety non‐Japanese Asian patients. Methods In this phase 3, randomized (1:1), double‐blind, double‐dummy, parallel‐group, non‐inferiority study (April 5, 2017, to July 19, 2019), patients with ≥ 1 endoscopically confirmed ulcer, at 52 hospitals (China, South Korea,...
Importance Effects of screening for Helicobacter pylori on gastric cancer incidence and mortality are unknown. Objective To evaluate the effects an invitation to screen H mortality. Design, Setting, Participants A pragmatic randomized clinical trial residents aged 50 69 years in Changhua County, Taiwan, eligible biennial fecal immunochemical tests (FIT) colon screening. were either stool antigen (HPSA) + FIT assessment or alone. The study was conducted between January 1, 2014, September 27,...
Abstract Background Clostridium innocuum has emerged as a pathobiome with vancomycin resistance, posing challenges in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) management. In ulcerative colitis (UC) patients, C. is associated reduced clinical remission rates, while Crohn’s (CD) it correlates creeping fat and intestinal stricture formation1,2. Some IBD patients experience refractory or recurrent infections, even after metronidazole treatment1. This study aimed to evaluate the safety feasibility of...
Abstract Ultrasonography of prospectively followed chronic hepatitis B patients who developed liver cirrhosis were reevaluated in order to identify the ultrasonographic changes early cirrhosis. Ultrasonographic features 29 before and after as follows: portal vein diameter—1.20 cm/1.29 cm (NS); score—5.69/7.52 ( p < 0.01); spleen size index—21.99 2 /25.84 (NS). The result suggests that diagnosis is not easy on a single occasion; however, score system method helpful longitudinal follow‐up...
We studied the efficacy of magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography (MRCP) in evaluation malignant perihilar biliary obstructions, with reference to endoscopic retrograde (ERCP).A total 40 patients who underwent both MRCP (Magnetom Vision; Siemens, Erlangen, Germany; projection technique and multislice plus maximum intensity projection) ERCP examinations, were studied. The study group included hilar cholangiocarcinoma (Klatskin tumor) 26 patients, icteric hepatocellular carcinoma four...
Abstract Activated T regulatory (T reg ) cells are potent suppressors that mediate immune tolerance. We investigated the relationship between activated and progression of human colon cancer. designed a cross‐sectional study CD4 + Foxp3 from peripheral blood, primary tumor nontumor tissue 42 patients with cancer correlated percentages different subgroups stage. The phenotypes, cytokine‐release patterns suppression ability these were analyzed. found increased significantly in both blood...
The technical performance of colonoscopy performed in deeply sedated patients differs from that without sedation or under minimal to moderate sedation. aim this study is evaluate the factors affecting cecal intubation during deep sedation.A total 5352 consecutive subjects who underwent a screening as part health check-up between January 2008 and December at an academic hospital were reviewed. All endoscopies with using combination propofol alone. Data collected included characteristics (age,...
Abstract Background Previous international consensus statements provided general policies for the management of Helicobacter pylori infection. However, there are geographic differences in prevalence and antimicrobial resistance H. , availability medications endoscopy. Thus, nationwide or regional needed to improve control infection gastric cancer. Materials Methods This statement Taiwan has three major sections: (1) optimal diagnosis indications; (2) current treatment strategies; (3)...
Esophagitis is the second most common gastrointestinal manifestation of cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection after colitis. CMV esophagitis has been reported in patients who have undergone transplantation, are on long-term renal dialysis, or human immunodeficiency virus infection. This study aimed to investigate clinical characteristics and manifestations underwent diagnostic endoscopy. A total 16 with histologically proven were identified from 1539 esophageal ulcers analyzed retrospectively...
In Brief Objective: To propose a cholangiographic classification for intraductal growth type intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma (IG-ICC) and its precursor, collectively termed papillary mucinous neoplasm of the bile ducts (IPMN-B). Summary Background Data: For extensive clinicopathologic variations IPMN-B, detailed characterization cholangiography IPMN-B is beneficial determining optimal therapeutic strategy. Methods: A total 124 patients with cholangiography-available pathologically proven...
Abstract Background. Opinions regarding the impact of human epidermal growth factor receptor (HER)-2 overexpression or HER-2 amplification on prognosis gastric cancer patients are mixed. The present study attempted to clarify this issue by investigating a large cohort surgical patients. Methods. We investigated 1,036 undergoing curative-intent resection. Their specimens were evaluated for expression immunohistochemistry (IHC), and those with levels 2+ additionally subjected fluorescence in...
The present study assessed the impact of retrieval >25 lymph nodes (LNs) on survival outcome patients with advanced gastric cancer after curative-intent gastrectomy.A total 5,386 who had undergone curative gastrectomy for from 1994 to 2011 were enrolled. clinicopathological parameters and overall (OS) analyzed according number LNs examined (≤15, n = 916; 16-25, 1,458; >25, 3,012).The percentage retrieved increased 2011. Patients in LN group more likely have a larger tumor size, poorer...
Abstract Background and Aim Epstein–Barr virus (EBV) is suggested to actively utilize its ebv‐microRNAs (miRNAs) manipulate viral cellular functions during neoplasia transformation. A systemic profiling of ebv‐miRNAs expressed in EBV‐associated gastric carcinoma (EBVa GC) helps understand epigenetic regulation carcinogenesis. Methods total 1039 patients with cancer were screened for EBVa GC using EBV‐encoded RNAs situ hybridization. comprehensive was constructed stem‐loop quantitative...
Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract can be fatal. However, very few studies have provided comprehensive analyses and specified differences in symptoms observed different parts GI tract.
