Nine of 11 hematological patients with disseminated/deep-seated Fusarium infection tested at least twice for Aspergillus galactomannan (GM) had repeated positive results in the absence isolation culture. The centrifuged supernatants 12 isolates were by a GM enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (EIA). All produced reactions when undiluted. These show cross-reactivity spp. that may constitute drawback respect to specificity Platelia EIA.
Summary Critically ill patients admitted to intensive care units (ICU) are highly susceptible healthcare‐associated infections caused by fungi. A prospective sequential survey of invasive fungal was conducted from May 2006 April 2008 in 38 ICUs 27 Italian hospitals. total 384 (318 Candida infections, three cryptococcosis and 63 mould infections) were notified. The median rate candidaemia 10.08 per 1000 admissions. In 15% cases, the infection already present at time admission ICU....
Although the Sensititre Yeast-One (SYO) and Etest methods are widely utilized, interpretive criteria not available for triazole susceptibility testing of Candida or Aspergillus species. We collected fluconazole, itraconazole, posaconazole, voriconazole SYO MICs from 39 laboratories representing all continents (method/agent-dependent) 11,171 albicans , 215 C. dubliniensis 4,418 glabrata species complex, 157 guilliermondii ( Meyerozyma ), 676 krusei Pichia kudriavzevii 298 lusitaniae...
Fungemia is a co-infection contributing to the worsening of critically ill COVID-19 patient. The multicenter Italian observational study FiCoV aims estimate frequency yeast bloodstream infections (BSIs), describe factors associated with BSIs in patients hospitalized 10 hospitals, and analyze antifungal susceptibility profiles yeasts isolated from blood cultures. included all adult BSI; anonymous data was collected each patient about collected. Yeast BSI occurred 1.06% patients, 0.14% 3.39%...
ABSTRACT Fluconazole susceptibility among 800 clinical Candida isolates (60% C. albicans ) and two control strains ( krusei ATCC 6258 parapsilosis 22019) was tested with the NCCLS M27-A method (gold standard) six commercial products (Candifast, disk, Etest, Fungitest, Integral System Yeasts, Sensititre YeastOne). Results were classified as susceptible, susceptible-dose dependent, or resistant using breakpoints or, for Candifast, intermediate, resistant, according to manufacturers'...
To evaluate the clinical and microbiological characteristics of symptomatic vaginal candidiasis in Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)-seropositive women attending a gynaecologic outpatient clinic for sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).Vaginal, rectal oral specimens from cases controls were cultured Candida spp.Eighty-four consecutive HIV-seropositive 384 HIV-seronegative with signs vulvovaginitis.A gynaecological out-patient Pavia, Italy. The overall prevalence was 61.9% (52/84) 32.3%...
Fungal rhinosinusitis is a common disease of the paranasal sinuses. The fungus ball (FB) defined as an extramucosal mycotic proliferation that fills one or more Sphenoid sinus uncommon localization this disease, reported in literature. This study describes our experience diagnosis and treatment sphenoid FB (SSFB), with particular focus on surgical approach to sinus. We retrospectively analyzed clinical records patients affected by sinus, who underwent endoscopic surgery (ESS) institutions...
Yeast-like filamentous fungi, collected in Italy from 1985 to 2018, were submitted molecular identification and antifungal susceptibility testings. Clinical isolates identified as Magnusiomyces capitatus (28), M. clavatus (18), Geotrichum candidum (2). was prevalent among blood (18/24), other biological materials. The intrinsic echinocandin resistance confirmed. Both species had low minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) of itraconazole, posaconazole, voriconazole, while lower MIC...
The rates of non-albicans species and susceptibility to the main antimycotic drugs were evaluated in a series 472 cultures vulvar or vaginal specimens positive for Candida species. Torulopsis glabrata was associated more frequently than C. albicans with recurrent vulvovaginal candidiasis (18/40 vs. 72/379; p = 0.003, Χ2 test). As by results testing, isolates uniformly sensitive antifungals tested, whereas 7.5% (3/40) T. strains resistant imidazole derivatives. All these patients had history...
A wide range of frequency azole-resistance in fumigatus different patient populations worldwide was observed threatening to reduce therapeutic options.Estimate the prevalence azole-resistance, investigate molecular mechanisms resistance, compare genotypes resistant clinical isolates with those from surrounding environment.Aspergillus were collected by seven Italian hospital microbiology laboratories. Strains isolated samples unselected patients. The evaluated using screening test and...
