Abstract We investigated the infection rate for severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome virus (SFTSV) among ticks collected from humans during May–October 2013 in South Korea. Haemaphysalis longicornis have been considered SFTSV vector. However, we detected H. longicornis, Amblyomma testudinarium, and Ixodes nipponensis ticks, indicating additional potential vectors.

To investigate nationwide severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome virus (SFTSV) infection status, we isolated SFTSVs from patients suspected (SFTS) in 207 hospitals throughout South Korea between 2013 and April 2017. A total of 116 were 3137 SFTS-suspected patients, an overall 21.6% case fatality rate. Genetic characterization revealed that at least 6 genotypes co-circulating Korea, multiple reassortments among them. Of these, the genotype B-2 strains most prevalent, followed by F...

During 2013, severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome was diagnosed in 35 persons South Korea. Environmental temperature probably affected the monthly and regional distribution of case-patients within country. Phylogenetic analysis indicated that isolates from Korea were closely related to China Japan.

Background/Objectives: Since December 2019, the COVID-19 pandemic, driven by SARS-CoV-2, has caused ~690 million infections globally, manifesting with mild to severe symptoms, including pneumonia. After reduced activity, seasonal influenza re-emerged in winter 2022, creating a “twindemic” SARS-CoV-2. Co-infections have been associated higher risks, such as increased ventilator use and mortality, emphasizing need for dual-target vaccines. This study investigates plant-based vaccines produced...

Abstract We sequenced the envelope (E) gene of 17 strains Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) isolated in South Korea 1983-2005 and compared sequences with those from previously reported strains. Our results show remarkable genetic stability E sequence Korean JEV Five pairs 10 were identical, despite geographical differences a maximum five-year time span. Sequence comparisons other Asian revealed that are closely related to China, Japan, Vietnam. Genotype 3 predominant before 1993, when...

Serosurveillance studies reveal the actual disease burden and herd immunity level in population. In Seoul, Korea, a cross-sectional investigation showed 0.07% anti-severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 antibody seropositivity among 1,500 outpatients of university hospitals. Low seroprevalence reflects well-implemented social distancing. should be repeated as pandemic progresses.

Severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome virus (SFTSV) is an emerging, tick-borne Bandavirus that causes lethal disease in humans. As there are no licensed vaccines and therapeutics for SFTSV, urgent need to develop countermeasures against it. In this respect, a reverse genetics (RG) system powerful tool help achieve goal. Herein, we established T7 RNA polymerase-driven RG rescue infectious clones of Korean SFTSV human isolate entirely from complementary DNA (cDNA). To establish system,...
