To investigate the impact of organizational characteristics and processes care on hospital mortality resource use in patients with cancer admitted to intensive units (ICUs).We performed a retrospective cohort study 9,946 (solid, n = 8,956; hematologic, 990) 70 ICUs (51 located general hospitals 19 centers) during 2013. We retrieved patients' clinical outcome data from an electronic ICU quality registry. surveyed regarding structure, organization, staffing patterns, care. used mixed...
Background: Predictive equations (PEs) are used for estimating resting energy expenditure (REE) when the measurements obtained from indirect calorimetry (IC) not available. This study evaluated degree of agreement and accuracy between REE measured by IC (REE‐IC) estimated PE (REE‐PE) in mechanically ventilated elderly patients admitted to intensive care unit (ICU). Methods: REE‐IC 97 critically ill was compared with REE‐PE 6 PEs: Harris Benedict (HB) multiplied correction factor 1.2;...
BackgroundGeoeconomic variations in epidemiology, the practice of ventilation, and outcome invasively ventilated intensive care unit (ICU) patients without acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) remain unexplored. In this analysis we aim to address these gaps using individual patient data four large observational studies.MethodsIn pooled harmonised from ERICC, LUNG SAFE, PRoVENT, PRoVENT-iMiC prospective studies, which were conducted June, 2011, December, 2018, 534 ICUs 54 countries. We...
Twelve pregnant women with hydatid disease are presented median age of 29; 11 (91.7%) had a liver cyst and one (8.3%) kidney as the primary location. Four (33.3%) additional cysts located in pelvis, peritoneal cavity and/or spleen; eight (66.7%) two or more abdominal cysts. Three patients (25.0%) surgery at 3rd month after delivery nine (75.0%) during their pregnancy. There was no histological evidence placentas, serological echinococcosis newborns confirmed. One patient died surgery. After...
Packed red blood cell (PRBC) transfusion is frequent in intensive care unit (ICU). However, the consequences of anemia ICU patients are poorly understood. Our aim was to evaluate prevalence, indications, pre-transfusion hematocrit and hemoglobin levels, outcomes transfused with PRBC.Prospective cohort study conducted at a medical-surgical teaching hospital during 16-month period. Patients' demographic, clinical, laboratory transfusion-related data were collected. Logistic regression used...
There is little information comparing the performance of community acquired central nervous system infections (CNSI) treatment by intensive care units (ICUs) specialized in infectious diseases with at other ICUs. Our objective was to reduce these gaps, creating bases for benchmarking and future case-mix classification. This a retrospective observational cohort 785 admissions 82 cases CNSI admitted ICU an important Brazilian referral center (INI) between January 2012 2019. Comparisons were...
Background: Intensive care units (ICU) could serve as good surveillance sites for encephalitis and other central nervous system infections (CNSI). While these systems are unpublished in Brazil, there is a lack of information on the short-term prognosis critically ill patients with CNSI country. Methods: Retrospective multicenter study metropolitan area Rio de Janeiro - from 2012 to 2019. Patients an ICU benchmarking database selected suspected cases CNSI, by prediction tool, had their medical...
