Major brassinosteroid (BR) effects such as BR-induced growth are mediated through genomic pathways because RNA synthesis inhibitors and protein interfere with these processes. A limited number of BR-regulated genes have been identified hitherto. The majority (such BRU1, CycD3, Lin6, OPR3, TRIP-1) were by comparisons BR-treated versus control-treated plants. However, altered transcript levels after BR application may not reflect normal physiological events. complementary approach is the...

OBJECTIVE—Insulin resistance is an independent risk factor for arteriosclerosis and cardiovascular mortality. However, the mechanism by which insulin contributes to unknown. Conceivably, endothelial dysfunction could be involved. Therefore, we asked whether therapy ameliorates any dysfunction. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS—We performed a double-blind cross-over trial of 12 patients with recently diagnosed type 2 diabetes. They received rosiglitazone 4 mg b.i.d. weeks nateglinide 60 same number...

We propose and demonstrate a hybrid cavity system in which metal nanoparticles are evanescently coupled to dielectric photonic crystal using nanoassembly method. While the constituents lead strongly localized fields, optical feedback is provided by surrounding structure. The combined effect of plasmonic field enhancement high quality factor (Q approximately 900) opens new routes for control light-matter interaction at nanoscale.

Objecative Acarbose inhibits α-glucosidases of the small intestine and thus delays glucose release from complex carbohydrates. Therefore, its efficacy acceptability as a first-line drug in non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) insufficiently treated with diet alone was tested randomized double-blind placebo-controlled study. Research Design And Methods Ninety-four NIDDM subjects, aged 43–70 yr average body mass index 28 kg/m2 undergoing pretreatment period at least 3 mo alone, were...

Spheroids resemble features of tissues and serve as model systems to study cell-cell cell-ECM interactions in non-adhesive three-dimensional environments. Although it is generally accepted that mature spheroids tissue properties very well, no studies relate different phases the spheroid formation processes contribute integrity. Tissue integrity involves cellular adhesion formation, reinforcement, rearrangement well proliferation. They maintain structure function and, upon dysregulation,...

Abstract Objective To determine the effect of joint protection and home exercises on hand function patients with osteoarthritis (OA). Methods Randomized, controlled, 3‐month trial a blinded assessor. Primary outcome parameter was grip strength; secondary parameters were Health Assessment Questionnaire visual analog scales (VAS) for pain global function. Forty OA randomly assigned to 2 groups: One group received instruction (JPE group), control an information session about OA. Results Grip...

Microalbuminuria, an early feature of diabetic nephropathy, indicates intrarenal endothelial damage. In type 2 diabetes, microalbuminuria is strongly related to insulin resistance. Nineteen patients participated in this double-blind cross-over trial. Nine with newly diagnosed disease without were randomized a treatment rosiglitazone or...
