Viral reactivation is a frequent complication of allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation especially in children. For refractory cases, rapid virus-specific T-cell therapy would be ideally implemented within few days. Over the course year our pediatric cohort 43 transplantation, 9 patients fulfilled criteria for therapy. infections were due to cytomegalovirus (CMV) 3, Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) 2, and adenovirus (AdV) 1 case, whereas >1 was detected 3 cases. diseases necessitating...

Background: Invasive fungal disease is a significant cause of morbidity and mortality in allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplant (alloHSCT) recipients. Posaconazole, broad-spectrum triazole, widely used as prophylaxis. Methods: We conducted monocentric, retrospective study to present real-world data on posaconazole trough levels paediatric alloHSCT patients. The main objective was determine the required daily dose analysed factors influencing levels, association between breakthrough...

Invasive mycoses are pre-eminent causes of morbidity and mortality in the allogeneic stem cell transplant setting. In spite novel diagnostic modalities, timely specific identification invasive still remains challenging. We analyzed case history 97 consecutive patients receiving 103 transplants between January 2003 October 2006 performed by a single team at 2 centers Budapest, Hungary. All with febrile neutropenia not responding to broad-spectrum antibacterial therapy received amphotericin B...

Invasive fungal disease (IFD), predominantly aspergillosis, is associated with significant morbidity and mortality in immunocompromised patients, especially those haematological malignancies recipients of allogeneic haematopoietic stem cell transplantation. There has been a great deal scientific debate as to the effectiveness antifungal prophylaxis preventing infection different patient groups which patients it an appropriate management option. Deciding on regimen for IFD challenging...

Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT)–associated thrombotic microangiopathy (TA-TMA) is a multifactorial complication, and its prediction largely unresolved. Our aim was to analyze changes of complement profile after HSCT identify potential markers TA-TMA development. Thirty-three consecutive pediatric patients (9.6 ± 4.4 years old) who underwent allogeneic due malignant (n = 17) or nonmalignant 16) indications were included in this study. Graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) diagnosed...

Abstract Baricitinib is considered a first-line treatment for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2)-infected adult patients with an associated cytokine storm (CSS). Our objective was to compare rates of secondary infections and long-term outcomes elderly non-elderly who received baricitinib COVID-19. We conducted single-centre observational study between November 2020 September 2023, focusing on hospitalized SARS-CoV-2 CSS, categorized as (≥ 65 years) (< years)....

At present, neither specific curative treatment nor vaccines for novel coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) are available. There is an urgent need to look alternative strategies COVID-19 especially in the case of severe and/or critically ill patients with cytokine release syndrome (CRS).Convalescent plasma proved increase survival rates other viral infections. Therefore, convalescent could be a promising option patients. In our article, we present first two Hungarian infection treated fresh frozen...

Abstract Primary CNS PTLD is an extremely rare complication after allogeneic HSCT. At our centre, 11‐year‐old patient developed nausea, vomiting, and diplopy on day +82 following On brain MRI, multiple white matter lesions were seen. Histology showed a diffuse large B‐cell lymphoma with high load of EBV in tissue. Despite stopping immunosuppression, treatment EBV‐specific cytotoxic T cells, systemic rituximab, HD‐MTX, intrathecal chemotherapy, progression was observed. With combination...

Primary cutaneous aggressive epidermotropic CD8+ cytotoxic T-cell lymphoma is a rare and provisional entity, characterised by involvement clinical behaviour. The case here presented of young woman with concurrent systemic involvement. Despite multi-agent chemotherapy, only partial remission could be achieved, the patient died from therapy-resistant respiratory circulatory failure. This report intended to add data collected on this about 20 cases as yet described.
