Abstract Upconversion core/shell nanocrystals with different mean sizes ranging from 15 to 45 nm were prepared via a modified synthesis procedure based on anhydrous rare‐earth acetates. All particles consist of core NaYF 4 :Yb,Er, doped 18 % Yb 3+ and 2 Er , an inert shell the thickness being equal radius particle. Absolute measurements photoluminescence quantum yield at series excitation power densities show that is already very close microcrystalline upconversion phosphor powder. Smaller...
BACKGROUND: Acquired deficiencies of certain complement proteins and impaired opsonisation activity have been implicated in the pathogenesis increased susceptibility to infections patients with alcoholic cirrhosis. METHODS: Serum concentrations C3 C4, plasma C3bc, C9, terminal C5b-9 complex (TCC), haemolytic (classic alternative pathway) serum, serum opsonic were determined 46 compensated cirrhosis, 31 who decompensated, 15 healthy subjects. After 19 months (median) investigated variables...
Core/shell/shell nanoparticle design with a controlled inner NaGdF 4 layer between the upconverting Er/Yb-doped core and magnetic NaDyF shell suppressed Dy 3+ -induced emission loss, while simultaneously enhancing MRI T 2 CT performance.
We present a new method to broaden the amplification range in optical parametric toward bandwidth needed for single cycle femtosecond pulses. Two-color pumping of independent stages is used sequentially amplify long and short wavelength parts ultrabroadband seed The concept tested two related experiments. With multi-mJ pulses with nearly octave spanning spectrum an uncompressed energy 3 mJ are generated at low repetition rate. spectral phase varies slowly continuously overlap region as shown...
Abstract Worldwide, more individuals have iron deficiency than any other health problem. Most of those affected are unaware their lack iron, in part because detection has required a blood sample. Here we report non-invasive method to optically measure an established indicator status, red cell zinc protoporphyrin, the microcirculation lower lip. An optical fibre probe is used illuminate lip and acquire fluorescence emission spectra ∼1 min. Dual-wavelength excitation with spectral fitting...
Femtosecond laser pulses, which are tunable from 440 to 990 nm, generated at MHz repetition rates by noncollinear parametric amplification (NOPA). The pulses have durations of 20 30 fs over the major part tuning range and a high energy stability 1.3% (rms). NOPA is pumped with ultraviolet third harmonic an ytterbium doped fiber system seeded smooth continuum in bulk sapphire. residual second used pump additional NOPA, independently 620 nm. Interference experiments show that two systems...
We present a simple and efficient concept for the generation of ultrashort infrared pulses with passively stabilized carrier-envelope phase at 100 kHz repetition rate. The central wavelength is tunable between 1.6 2.0 µm pulse durations 8.2 12.8 fs, corresponding to sub-two-cycle duration over whole tuning range. Pulse energies up 145 nJ are achieved. As first application we measure high nonlinearity multiphoton photoemission from nanoscale metal tip.
We show efficient generation of mid-IR pulses tunable between 1 and 5 μm from 100 kHz class femtosecond systems. The concept can be applied to various sources, particularly based on Ti:sapphire the newly evolving Yb+ lasers. are generated as idler a collinear optical parametric amplifier pumped by laser fundamental. seed for this is previous amplification stage with second harmonic seeded visible continuum. This enhances energy allows us influence bandwidth final output. Pulses microjoule...
Objective. Spontaneous bacterial peritonitis is a common infection in cirrhosis, associated with high mortality. Third-generation cephalosporins are recommended as first-line treatment. The aim was to evaluate the epidemiology of microbiological ascitic fluid findings and antimicrobial resistance Denmark. Material Methods. All patients cirrhosis positive culture, at three university hospitals Copenhagen area during 7-year period, were retrospectively evaluated. Patients apparent secondary...
Optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a noninvasive high-resolution imaging technique that permits the detection of cancerous and precancerous lesions uterine cervix. The purpose this study was to evaluate new system integrates an OCT device into microscope. images were taken from loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LEEP) specimens under microscopic guidance. blinded with respect their origin within image analyzed independently by two investigators using initially defined criteria later...
Autoclaves – vessels for sustaining high temperatures and pressures are widely used across chemical biological sciences, one of the more accessible pieces equipment synthesis luminescent upconversion nanoparticles (UCNPs) amongst other nanomaterials. Yet, despite being crucial to nanomaterial synthesis, details autoclave reactors barely reported in literature, leaving several key variables unreported, thereby hampering reproducibility many synthesises. In this perspective, we discuss safety...
The spontaneous fluorescence background in optical parametric amplifiers is generally attributed to the zero-point fluctuations of electromagnetic field. These are amplified parallel seed light and lead an uncompressible superfluorescence that deteriorates contrast chirped pulse (OPCPA). absolute level underlying has not been reported so far. Comparing low cw quantitatively monitoring output a noncollinear amplifier for both sources, now determined. In situation 50 nm visible bandwidth...
Fully tunable deep UV pulses of 30 fs duration are generated in an all-solid-state scheme from 200 fs long pump a Ti:sapphire amplifier. The tunability comes noncollinear optical parametric amplifier with tailored spectral width. output frequency-doubled 50 μm BBO crystal and subsequently mixed 32 μm part the output. compression is solely performed visible. This makes setup extremely simple efficient. Less than 400 μJ energy suffice to obtain submicrojoule pulses. strategy for bandwidth...
BACKGROUND Approximately every third surgical patient is anemic. The most common form, iron deficiency anemia, results from persisting iron‐deficient erythropoiesis (IDE). Zinc protoporphyrin (ZnPP) a promising parameter for diagnosing IDE, hitherto requiring blood drawing and laboratory workup. STUDY DESIGN AND METHODS Noninvasive ZnPP (ZnPP‐NI) measurements are compared to reference determination of the ZnPP/heme ratio by high‐performance liquid chromatography (ZnPP‐HPLC) analytical...
Objective Endoscopic examination followed by tissue biopsy is the gold standard in evaluation of lesions upper aerodigestive tract. However, it can be difficult to distinguish between healthy mucosa, dysplasia, and invasive carcinoma. Optical coherence tomography (OCT) a non-invasive technique which acquires high-resolution, cross-sectional images vivo. Integrated into surgical microscope, allows intraoperative simultaneously with microscopic visualization. Study Design In prospective case...
Upconverting nanoparticles (UCNPs) have been proposed for a variety of applications ranging from biomedical probes to luminescent sensors and security tags. Yet, bringing UCNPs into real-life, technologically relevant products requires implementation industry-friendly processes. The need stable dispersions, clean films or dry powders challenges users who look way use UCNPs. In this work, an ink formulation was developed that offers straightforward print on glass metallic substrates. Gum...
Abstract Objectives Fluorescence spectroscopy of human urine is a method with the potential to gain importance as diagnostic tool in medical field, e.g., for measuring Coproporphyrin III (CPIII) an indicator cancer and acute types porphyria. Food can change urine's color, which could influence fluorescence spectrum detection CPIII urine. To determine if there noticeable on or urine, 16 vitamin supplements, three food items were tested. Such investigation may also prevent false interpretation...
