Although transcutaneous bilirubinometers have existed for over 30 years, the clinical utility of technique is limited to a screening method hyperbilirubinemia, rather than replacement invasive blood sampling. In this study, we investigate reason value and address possibilities improvement. To obtain better insight into physiology bilirubin measurements, evaluated bilirubinometer that determines not only cutaneous concentration (TcB) but also volume fraction (BVF) in investigated skin volume....

The Netherlands has provided unrestricted access to direct-acting antivirals (DAAs) since November 2015. We analyzed the nationwide hepatitis C virus (HCV) treatment uptake among patients coinfected with human immunodeficiency (HIV) and HCV.Data were obtained from ATHENA HIV observational cohort in which >98% of HIV-infected ever registered 1998 are included. Patients included if they had 1 positive HCV RNA result, did not have spontaneous clearance, known still be care. Treatment outcome...

Abstract Background Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-positive men who have sex with (MSM) are at high risk of hepatitis C (HCV) reinfection following clearance HCV, but factors specifically for never been comprehensively assessed. Methods Using data from a prospective observational cohort study among HIV-positive MSM an acute HCV infection (MOSAIC), the incidence spontaneous or successful treatment was A univariable Bayesian exponential survival model used to identify associated...

Current guidelines recommend hepatitis C virus (HCV) testing for HIV-infected men who have sex with (MSM) ongoing risk behaviour, without specifying the type of behaviour. We developed and validated HCV-MOSAIC score to assist HCV in MSM. The consisted six self-reported factors identified using multivariable logistic regression data from Dutch MOSAIC study (n = 213, 2009–2013). Area under ROC curve (AUC), sensitivity, specificity, post-test-probability-of-disease diagnostic gain were...

Objective: MSM are at increased risk for infection with HIV-1 and hepatitis C virus (HCV). Is HIV/HCV coinfection confined to specific HIV transmission networks? Design methods: A phylogenetic tree was constructed 5038 subtype B polymerase (pol) sequences obtained from in the AIDS therapy evaluation Netherlands cohort. We investigated existence of clusters HCV prevalence, density (i.e. number potential partners) HIV/HCV-coinfected compared HIV-infected without HCV, overlap phylogenies using...

The Q80K polymorphism is a naturally occurring resistance-associated variant in the hepatitis C virus (HCV) nonstructural protein 3 (NS3) region and likely transmissible between hosts. This study describes origin prevalence among HCV risk groups Netherlands examines whether linked to specific transmission networks.Stored blood samples from genotype 1a-infected patients were used for PCR sequencing reconstruct NS3 maximum likelihood phylogeny. most recent common ancestor was estimated with...

In response to the increased hepatitis C virus (HCV) prevalence recently found among participants of Amsterdam preexposure prophylaxis demonstration project, we evaluated HCV over time and performance HCV-MOSAIC risk score for detection infection in HIV-negative men who have sex with (MSM) attending sexually transmitted (STI) clinic. In October 2016, MSM were tested anti-HCV RNA completed score. Anti-HCV was compared that cross-sectional studies at STI clinic (2007-2017). The trend modeled...

Abstract We assessed spontaneous clearance in 27 human immunodeficiency virus–infected men who have sex with (MSM) seroconverted for hepatitis C virus (HCV). In contrast a recent estimate of 45.8%, we found rate 11.1% (95% confidence interval = 2.4–29.2). This finding suggests that treatment deferral to await might not be justified MSM sexually acquired HCV.

Introduction As the incidence of hepatitis C virus (HCV) infections remains high among human immunodeficiency (HIV)-positive men who have sex with (MSM) an HCV testing strategy was introduced at sexually transmitted (STI) clinic in Amsterdam 2017. We aimed to evaluate this strategy.
