Twenty-two consecutive carbapenem-resistant enterobacterial isolates were recovered from patients hospitalized between January and April 2013 in different units at a university hospital Istanbul, Turkey. These Klebsiella pneumoniae producing the carbapenemases OXA-48, NDM-1, KPC-2, Enterobacter cloacae Escherichia coli OXA-48. Most of OXA-48-producing K. all NDM-1-producing E. clonally related. The single neonatal intensive care unit corresponded to cluster, highlighting spread that clone setting.
Staphylococcus aureus is one of the causes both community and healthcare-associated bacteremia. The attributable mortality S. bacteremia (SAB) still higher predictors for clinical outcomes this condition are need to be clarified. In prospective observational study, we aimed examine predictive factors in patients with SAB eight Turkish tertiary care hospitals. Adult signs symptoms positive blood cultures were included. All data episodes including demographics, laboratory findings,...
The aim of this study was to determine the clinical features, and outcome patients with miliary tuberculosis (TB). We retrospectively evaluated 263 (142 male, 121 female, mean age: 44 years, range: 16–89 years) TB. Criteria for diagnosis TB were at least one followings in presence presentation suggestive such as prolonged fever, night sweats, anorexia, weight loss: radiologic criterion pathological and/or microbiological criterion; criterion. pattern seen 88% patients. Predisposing factors...
To compare responses to tenofovir (TDF) and entecavir (ETV) therapy. This was a multicenter retrospective study including treatment-naïve patients with chronic hepatitis B (CHB) who received TDF or ETV. The primary end-points were undetectable HBV-DNA at 48 weeks serological biochemical responses.Out of 195 CHB patients, 90 (46%) 105 (54%) ETV; 72% male, their mean age 43±12 years, the duration treatment 30.2±15.7 months. Hepatitis e antigen (HBeAg) seropositivity 32% in group 34% ETV group....
We aimed to evaluate the impact of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) on viral kinetics and virologic response tenofovir entecavir treatment in patients with chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. This study was designed as a retrospective multicenter cohort study. The hepatosteatosis pre-treatment serum HBV DNA levels also either or at 6 12 months therapy investigated.A total 145 cases were involved [median age 40 (18-73) years, 90 (62%) males]. In multivariate analysis, it...
To study the protective, preventive effect of luteolin from colistin-induced nephrotoxicity.Four different treatment options were tested on rats: colistin, luteolin, and a combination colistin intraperitoneally as two doses day, for seven days. Another group rats used control treated with sterile saline. Serum creatinine levels measured before after treatment. Histological changes apoptosis (Insitu BrdU-red DNA Fragmentation Assay Kit) renal tissues examined scarification procedure.In...
We aimed to investigate the demographic, clinical, diagnostic, treatment and outcome features of patients with urinary tuberculosis (UTB). Patients UTB admitted seven separate centers across Turkey between 1995 2013 were retrospectively evaluated. The diagnosis was made by presence any clinical finding plus positivity one following: (1) acid-fast bacilli (AFB) in urine, (2) isolation Mycobacterium tuberculosis, (3) polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for M. (4) histopathological evidence TB....
This study aims to provide both a model by using cumulative cases and death toll for SARS-CoV-2 (severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2) outbreak in four countries, China, Italy, South Korea, Turkey, starting from the first diagnosis compare associated indicators. The most successful estimation was obtained cubic with natural logarithm Turkey. success of models around 99%. However, differences began emerge Korea after second week. Although highest number new per 1 million people...
Simultaneous central nervous system (CNS) infection with Cryptococcus and tuberculosis (TB) is very rare. Despite improved therapeutic options, treatment of CNS cryptococcosis still difficult needs invasive modalities, such as intrathecal or intraventricular amphotericin B, in refractory cases. We describe a patient systemic lupus erythematosus diagnosed simultaneous cryptococcal TB meningitis who had poor response to intravenous liposomal B fluconazole, but was successfully treated addition...
Objective: The aim of this study is to evaluate the efficacy spiramycin in prevention mother-to-child transmission Toxoplasma gondii infection. Methods: Patients within first trimester their pregnancy with IgM positivity (>0.65 index, ELISA, VIDAS) and IgG (>8 IU/ml), who had low avidity (<0.50 Architet) were considered as having acute toxoplasmosis. These patients amniocentesis at 19th–21st week examined for detection DNA. Detailed ultrasonographic examinations performed between 20th 24th...
The diagnostic value of fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (FDG PET/CT) has not been thoroughly evaluated in patients with leukemia. We herein report the case a patient B cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) presenting fever unknown origin (FUO) who was diagnosed after FDG PET/CT indicated diffuse bone marrow involvement.
Schistosomiasis is a rare condition in Turkey but remains second most prevelant parasitic infestation worldwide.A 67-years old male patient admitted to hospital with macroscopic hematuria.
