Pluripotent stem cells can be induced from somatic cells, providing an unlimited cell resource, with potential for studying disease and use in regenerative medicine. However, genetic manipulation technically challenging strategies such as nuclear transfer used reprogramming limit their clinical applications. Here, we show that pluripotent generated mouse at a frequency up to 0.2% using combination of seven small-molecule compounds. The chemically resemble embryonic terms gene expression...

Hepatitis C virus (HCV) is a global challenge to public health. Several factors have been proven be critical for HCV entry, including the newly identified claudin-1 (CLDN1). However, mechanism of entry still obscure. Presently, among 20 members claudin family in humans so far, CLDN1 has only member shown necessary entry. Recently, we discovered that Bel7402, an HCV-permissive cell line, does not express but expresses other family. Among these claudins, CLDN9 was able mediate just as...

A series of brush block copolymers (BBCPs) with polynorbornene backbones containing poly{2,5-bis[(4-methoxyphenyl)oxycarbonyl]styrene} (PMPCS, which is a rigid chain) and poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) side chains were synthesized by tandem ring-opening metathesis polymerizations. The weight fractions PEO in BBCPs are similar, the degrees polymerization (DPs) same while DPs PMPCS different. bulk self-assembling behaviors studied small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS). neat cannot form ordered...

The self-assembly of a rod-coil amphiphilic block copolymer (ABCP) led to Im3‾ m and Pn3‾ polymer cubosomes p6mm hexasomes. This is the first time that these structures are observed in system. By varying hydrophobic chain length, initial concentration solution, or solubility parameter mixed solvent, head-tail asymmetry adjusted control formation mechanism was also studied. research opens up new way for further study bicontinuous inverse phases different ABCP systems.

We synthesized a new series of MJLCPs with polynorbornene main chain, PNbnPT (n = 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, which is the number carbons in side-chain alkyl tails), through ring-opening metathesis polymerization and investigated their phase behaviors. The monomers were facilely satisfactory yields key intermediate, N-(2,5-dicarboxylphenyl)-cis-5-norbornene-exo-2,3-dicarboximide. Differential scanning calorimetry, polarized light microscopy, wide-angle X-ray diffraction results demonstrate that...

A series of main-chain/side-chain combined liquid crystalline polymers (MCSCLCPs) with a polynorbornene backbone and multi-benzene mesogens in the side chain, PNbnPP (n = 2, 6, 10), were synthesized through controllable polymerization method: ring-opening metathesis (ROMP). Differential scanning calorimetry, polarized light microscopy, one-/two-dimensional wide-angle X-ray diffraction utilized to investigate phase behavior PNbnPP.
