Abstract Background Effects of macular shape changes on the retina have been studied in pathologic myopia. However, whether there are individual differences non-pathologic myopia and influence retinochoroidal disease these eyes is not well known. A recently developed ultra-wide-field optical coherence tomography (UWF-OCT) has a wider imaging range can be used to evaluate inferior posterior staphyloma (IPS). We aimed investigate effect IPS Haller vessel running patterns (HVRPs) healthy using...
Concomitant heart failure is associated with poor clinical outcome in dialysis patients. The arteriovenous shunt, created as vascular access for hemodialysis, increases ventricular volume-overload, predisposing patients to developing cardiac dysfunction. integral function of mitochondrial respiration critically important the cope hemodynamic overload. involvement, however, activity or reactive oxygen species (ROS) pathogenesis ventricular-overload-induced has not been fully elucidated. We...
Helicobacter cinaedi infection is rarely encountered in nonimmunocompromised patients. We report the case of an 85-year-old man who presented with axillobifemoral bypass graft caused by cinaedi. The patient was not immunocompromised. successfully treated him iliac stenting native artery, near-total removal infected graft. At present, 48 months later, doing well at home, no evidence infection. To best our knowledge, this first a prosthetic
Foam rolling is a self-applied massage using foam roller that has gained popularity for treatment of muscle soreness. However, its efficacy improving hip pain in patients with osteoarthritis remains unclear. To investigate the effects on osteoarthritis. In this retrospective propensity-matched cohort study, medical records outpatients between January 2017 and March 2019 were reviewed. Of these, 115 divided into or non-foam groups based home exercises. Both propensity-score matched (1:1) age,...
An 87-year old man with a past medical history of descending aortic aneurysm for 20 years presented progressive dysphagia and aspiration pneumonia. Computed tomography angiography demonstrated the impending rupture thoracic (TAA) endoscopic examinations revealed extrinsic compression middle oesophagus Rokitansky's diverticulum proximal to area. He underwent urgent endovascular repair, followed by oesophageal stenting. The patient's symptoms immediately improved, postoperative period was...
Although some patients with fulminant myocarditis can be rescued owing to the improvements in mechanical circulatory support therapy, there are few reports providing evidence of cardiac rehabilitation during supports, particularly among pediatric patients. We treated two who underwent aggressive support. Five days after initiation extracorporeal membrane oxygenation therapy was started a 10-year-old girl myocarditis. After explantation device, she discharged on postoperative day 23. A...
We encountered a 12-year-old girl with neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) who developed low-grade cervicothoracic malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor (MPNST). Computed tomography of the neck showed an elastic firm measuring 7 × 6 4 cm and arising from upper mediastinum. She had no pain or neurological symptoms, but enlarged to ca. 8 over following months. Although we diagnosed neurofibroma by preoperative incisional biopsy, resected MPNST in central portion tumor. In treating patient NF1,...
Brain injury remains an ongoing concern for patients requiring cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) surgery. Observations in a neonatal pig model of build-up blood ammonia levels may be significant unrecognized source metabolic stress these surgeries. Ammonia entering the brain upon restarting CPB pump appears highly correlated with level hypothermia and glutamine/glutamate lactate levels. These changes are also strongly dependent on choice surgical parameters such use deep cardiac arrest (whereby...
To measure and validate elevated succinate in brain during circulatory arrest a piglet model of cardiopulmonary bypass.
Computational modeling indicated that pathological high shear stress (HSS; 100 dyn/cm2) is generated in pulmonary arteries (PAs; 100-500 µm) congenital heart defects causing PA hypertension (PAH) and idiopathic PAH with occlusive vascular remodeling. Endothelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EndMT) a feature of PAH. We hypothesize HSS induces EndMT, contributing to the initiation progression used Ibidi perfusion system determine whether applied human endothelial cells (ECs) EndMT when compared...
Abstract Aim Studies regarding changes in antibodies to hepatitis E virus (HEV) after HEV infection organ transplant patients are limited. This study aimed clarify trends who contracted using data from a previous Japanese nationwide survey. Methods was undertaken 2012 2019. Among 4518 liver, heart, and kidney patients, anti‐HEV immunoglobulin G (IgG) were positive 164; collected 106 of these consented participate the study. In total, 32 liver seven heart 67 16 institutions Japan examined for...
An 82-year old woman presented with chest pain and was diagnosed as having acute myocardial infarction. Coronary angiography (CAG) showed 90% stenosis in the proximal left anterior descending artery (LAD). The patient underwent percutaneous coronary intervention using a sirolimus-eluting stent (SES). A repeat CAG performed 6 months after SES implantation revealed no problems. Eight years later, recurrent angina. severe of large aneurysm. We off-pump bypass grafting without ligation or...
