We evaluated the contribution of sentinel-node biopsy to outcomes in patients with newly diagnosed melanoma.
Sentinel-lymph-node biopsy is associated with increased melanoma-specific survival (i.e., until death from melanoma) among patients node-positive intermediate-thickness melanomas (1.2 to 3.5 mm). The value of completion lymph-node dissection for sentinel-node metastases not clear.
The objective of this study was to evaluate, in an international multicenter phase III trial, the accuracy, use, and morbidity intraoperative lymphatic mapping sentinel node biopsy (LM/SNB) for staging regional nodal basin patients with early-stage melanoma.Since our introduction LM/SNB 1990, technique has been widely adopted become part American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) system. Eleven years ago, authors began Multicenter Selective Lymphadenectomy Trial (MSLT-I) compare 2 treatment...
The objective of the study was to achieve limb salvage in patients with locally advanced soft tissue sarcomas that can only be treated by amputation or functionally mutilating surgery performing an isolated perfusion (ILP) tumor necrosis factor (TNF) + melphalan (M) as induction biochemotherapy obtain local control and make limb-sparing possible. To increase number resections treatment extremity sarcoma, preoperative radiation therapy chemotherapy a combination two often are applied. ILP...
PURPOSE: Several studies have reported clinical behavior and chemotherapy resistance in leiomyosarcomas, but these did not differentiate between soft tissue leiomyosarcomas (LMS) malignant gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST). Multidrug (MDR) has been associated with the expression of P-glycoprotein (P-gp), multidrug protein (MRP 1 ), lung (LRP). The aim present study was to compare LMS GIST respect outcome MDR parameters. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Clinical evaluated 29 patients a primary...
Purpose Prognosis in patients with sentinel node (SN) –positive melanoma correlates several characteristics of the metastases SN such as size and site. These factors reflect biologic behavior may separate out who or not need additional locoregional and/or systemic therapy. Patients Methods Between 1993 2008, 1,080 (509 women 571 men) were diagnosed tumor burden nine European Organisation for Research Treatment Cancer (EORTC) group centers. In total, 1,009 (93%) underwent completion lymph...
Purpose After cisplatin- and bleomycin-containing chemotherapy for testicular cancer, part of the patient population will develop acute or long-term cardiovascular toxicity. It is largely unknown whether standard tests can be used to assess chemotherapy-induced changes. Patients Methods In 65 cancer patients (median age, 27 years; range, 18 48 years), we measured following parameters before within 10 weeks after completion cisplatin-based chemotherapy: platelet numbers, plasma levels...
Allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis (ABPA) can cause severe worsening of the respiratory condition in patients with cystic fibrosis. Treatment result steroid dependency and serious adverse events. A dramatic rapid improvement symptoms lung function after a single dose anti-IgE antibody (omalizumab) 12-year-old girl fibrosis ABPA is described. This first report this experimental treatment. It suggests an important role for IgE pathogenesis offers new therapeutic possibilities.
Secondary angiosarcoma of the breast is a rare but severe long-term complication cancer treated with breast-conserving surgery and radiotherapy. We characterized population-based cohort patients secondary angiosarcomas from two tertiary hospitals to investigate this respect surgical treatment outcome. We identified 35 history radiation for that developed in irradiated field 1990 2009. Of these, 31 underwent were included analysis.Angiosarcoma after median 7 years (range 3-25 years). R0...
