We present the first Korean individual genome sequence (SJK) and analysis results. The diploid of a male was sequenced to 28.95-fold redundancy using Illumina paired-end sequencing method. SJK covered 99.9% NCBI human reference genome. identified 420,083 novel single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) that are not in dbSNP database. Despite close similarity, significant differences were observed between Chinese (YH), only other Asian available, SJK: (1) 39.87% (1,371,239 out 3,439,107) SNPs...

Tigers and their close relatives (Panthera) are some of the world's most endangered species. Here we report de novo assembly an Amur tiger whole-genome sequence as well genomic sequences a white Bengal tiger, African lion, lion snow leopard. Through comparative genetic analyses these genomes, find signatures that may reflect molecular adaptations consistent with big cats' hypercarnivorous diet muscle strength. We leopard-specific determinant in EGLN1 (Met39>Lys39), which is likely to be...

A Gram-negative, aerobic bacterium, designated as SH-1T, was isolated from the gut content of a whiteleg shrimp, Litopenaeus vannamei collected in shrimp farm South Korea. The bacterial cells were ovoid rod-shaped, non-motile, oxidase-positive and catalase-negative. Growth observed at 20-35 °C (optimum, 30 °C), pH 5.0-9.5 (pH 8.5) presence 0-6 % (w/v) NaCl (2-3 %). major polar lipids phosphatidylglycerol, phosphatidylinositolmannoside, unidentified aminolipid two lipids. G+C 66.1 mol%...

For the robust practice of genomic medicine, sequencing results must be compatible, regardless technologies and algorithms used. Presently, genome is still an imprecise science complicated by differences in chemistry, coverage, alignment, variant-calling algorithms. We identified ~3.33 million single nucleotide variants (SNVs) ~3.62 SNVs SJK using SOLiD Illumina data, respectively. Approximately 3 were concordant between two platforms while 68,532 discordant; 219,616 SOLiD-specific 516,080...

The first Korean individual diploid genome sequence data (KOREF) was publicized in December 2008. A variation analysis and browsing server (Gevab) constructed as a database web for the exploration downloading of personal genome(s). Information Gevab includes SNPs, short indels, structural (SV) comparison between NCBI human reference user can find information on assembled consensus sequences, sequenced reads, genetic variations, relationships genotype phenotypes. This is openly publicly...
