Two patients, returning to the Netherlands from pilgrimage in Medina and Mecca, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, were diagnosed with Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV) infection May 2014. The source mode transmission have not yet been determined. Hospital-acquired community-acquired are both possible.

We measured COVID-19 vaccine effectiveness (VE) against symptomatic SARS-CoV-2 infection at primary care/outpatient level among adults ≥ 65 years old using a multicentre test-negative design in eight European countries. included 592 cases and 4,372 controls the main analysis. The VE was 62% (95% CI: 45–74) for one dose only 89% 79–94) complete vaccination. vaccines provide good protection presentation level, particularly fully vaccinated individuals.

Since the first reports of COVID-19 cases, sex-discrepancies have been reported in mortality. We provide a detailed description these sex differences relation to age and comorbidities among notified cases as well sex-specific mortality general Dutch population.Data on until May 31st 2020 was extracted from national surveillance database with exclusion healthcare workers. Association between case fatality analyzed multivariable logistic regression. Subsequently, male-female ratio standardized...

We conducted a multicentre test-negative case-control study in 27 hospitals of 11 European countries to measure 2015/16 influenza vaccine effectiveness (IVE) against hospitalised A(H1N1)pdm09 and B among people aged ≥ 65 years. Patients swabbed within 7 days after onset symptoms compatible with severe acute respiratory infection were included. Information on demographics, vaccination underlying conditions was collected. Using logistic regression, we measured IVE adjusted for potential...

In a multicentre European hospital study we measured influenza vaccine effectiveness (IVE) against A(H3N2) in 2016/17. Adjusted IVE was 17% (95% confidence interval (CI): 1 to 31) overall; 25% CI: 2 43) among 65-79-year-olds and 13% -15 30) those ≥ 80 years. As the component has not changed for 2017/18, physicians public health experts should be aware that could low where viruses predominate.

Abstract Background During the COVID-19 pandemic participatory digital syndromic surveillance systems proved itself, as it is scalable, flexible and function independent from health care system or seeking behaviour. A limitation of inability pathogen identification. We describe our experiences regarding integrating self-swabs with centralized testing into a in Netherlands ( Infectieradar ). Methods In 2022/2023 winter season was extended to include nose- throat swabs. Participants received...

Abstract We assessed the impact of COVID-19 on healthcare workers (HCWs) from data 2.9 million cases reported nine countries in EU/EEA. Compared to non-HCWs, HCWs had a higher adjusted risk hospitalization (IRR 3.0 [95% CI 2.2-4.0]), but not death 0.9, 95% 0.4-2.0). Article Summary Line Healthcare are hospitalized more frequently than non-healthcare when adjusting for age, sex, and comorbidities.

Abstract Objectives Evaluation of the presence and effect SARS-CoV-2 co-infections on disease severity. Methods We collected both symptom data nose- throat samples from symptomatic people during 2022/2023 respiratory season in a large participatory surveillance study Netherlands, tested these for 18 viruses including SARS-CoV-2. compared reported health status, symptoms odds having mono viral infection or co-infection with another virus. Results In total 4,655 were included 22% (n=1,017)...
