Abstract Sepsis, or systemic inflammatory response syndrome, is the major cause of critical illness resulting in admission to intensive care units. Sepsis caused by severe infection and associated with mortality 60% cases. Morbidity due sepsis complicated neuromyopathy, patients face long-term disability muscle weakness, energetic dysfunction, proteolysis wasting. These processes are triggered pro-inflammatory cytokines metabolic imbalances aggravated malnutrition drugs. Skeletal...

Ventriculostomy-related infection (VRI) is a serious complication of external ventricular drain (EVD) but its natural history poorly studied. We prospectively tracked the bacteria pathways from skin towards ventricles to identify infectious process resulting in ventriculostomy-related colonization (VRC), and VRI. systematically sampled cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) on daily basis collected swabs both stopcock every 3.0 days for microbiological analysis including 101 neurosurgical patient. Abstract Background Emerging evidence suggests that the reallocation of health care resources during COVID-19 pandemic negatively impacts system. This study describes epidemiology and outcome major trauma patients admitted to centers in France first wave outbreak. Methods retrospective observational included all consecutive aged 15 years older into contributing TraumaBase® registry SARS-CoV-2 France. cohort was compared historical cohorts (2017–2019). Results Over a 4 years-study period,...

Abstract Background Antibiotic-impregnated external ventricular drains (AI-EVDs) have a debated efficacy in clinical studies. Objectives Our aim was to assess the durability of antimicrobial activity AI-EVDs used settings. Methods From April 2017 January 2018, all consecutive (Bactiseal™) inserted adult patients were prospectively included. After removal, each AI-EVD cultured and assessed for on both internal sides AI-EVDs. Catheters challenged with single Staphylococcus strain [MSSA, MRSA...

Sepsis is defined as a dysregulated host response to infection leading organs failure. Among them, sepsis induces skeletal muscle (SM) alterations that contribute acquired-weakness in critically ill patients. Proteomics and metabolomics could unravel biological mechanisms sepsis-related organ dysfunction. Our objective was characterize distinctive signature of septic shock human SM by using an integrative multi-omics approach. Muscle biopsies were obtained part multicenter non-interventional...

Chronic wasting disease (CWD) is the only known prion affecting free-ranging animals and has become a serious epidemic in North America. Although any case was reported from Europe, spread of to other continents regions cannot be excluded, because transmission CWD most efficient among diseases. This article reviews host range including experimentally infected animals, models for potential transmissibility humans, clinical signs disease, pathogenesis, methods detection.

Early detection of infection is critical to rapidly starting effective treatment. Diagnosis can be difficult, particularly in the intensive care unit (ICU) population. Because presence polymorphonuclear neutrophils tissues hallmark inflammatory processes, objective this proof concept study was determine whether measurement reactive oxygen species (ROS) could an efficient diagnostic tool diagnose infections peritoneal, pleural and bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) fluids ICU patients.We...

Spontaneous coronary artery dissection (SCAD) is an uncommon disease. We report the case of a 50 year-old woman with past medical history aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage, presenting acute chest pain and diffuse ST segment elevation on ECG. Coronary angiogram revealed SCAD left anterior descending artery. The association between cerebral aneurysms should trigger providers concern for fibromuscular dysplasia. hereby rare atypical involving relationship dysplasia SCAD.

Recently, we showed the interest of instantaneous production radical oxygen species (ROS) for diagnosis meningitis ([1]). Polymorphonuclear neutrophils (PMN) are a major source ROS through activation protein kinase C and NADPH oxidase pathway, which may differ according to stimuli.
