Excessive mitochondrial fission is a prominent early event and contributes to dysfunction, synaptic failure, neuronal cell death in the progression of Alzheimer's disease (AD). However, it remains be determined whether inhibition excessive beneficial mammal models AD. To determine dynamin-related protein 1 (Drp1), key regulator fragmentation, can disease-modifying therapeutic target for AD, we examined effects Drp1 inhibitor on dysfunctions induced by oligomeric amyloid-β (Aβ) neurons...
Significance Considering that Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a chronic progressing over long period of time, even slight increase BACE1 expression may have profound effect on Aβ accumulation. We describe previously unknown mechanism negatively regulates and BACE1-AS demonstrate its pivotal role in the progression Tau pathologies cognitive impairment two mouse models AD. Given recent failures clinical trials using enzymatic inhibitors BACE1, it critical to explore alternative approaches such as...
Objective Stroke is a leading cause of mortality and disability. The peptidyl‐prolyl cis / trans isomerase Pin1 regulates factors involved in cell growth. Recent evidence has shown that plays major role apoptosis. However, the ischemic stroke remains to be investigated. Methods We used overexpression knockdown manipulate expression explore effects death on stress vitro mouse model. also Pin 1 inhibitor, γ‐secretase Notch1 intracellular domain (NICD1)‐deleted mutant cells, cells investigate...
Abstract Notch signaling pathways modulate various cellular processes, including cell proliferation, differentiation, adhesion and communication. Recent studies have demonstrated that Notch1 also regulates hepatic glucose production lipid synthesis. However, the effect of on oxidation has not yet been directly investigated. To define function in metabolism, wild type mice deficient antisense transgenic (NAS) were fed a high-fat diet. High-fat diet -fed NAS exhibited marked reduction...
Abstract Structural deformation modifies the bandgap, exciton fine structure and phonon energy of semiconductors, providing an additional knob to control their optical properties. The impact can be exploited in colloidal semiconductor quantum dots (QDs), wherein structural stresses imposed three dimensions while defect formation is suppressed by controlling surface growth kinetics. Yet, over QDs free from optically active defects has not been reached. Here, we demonstrate strain-graded...
Inhibition of Notch signalling has shown anti-inflammatory properties in vivo and vitro models rheumatoid arthritis (RA). The objective this study was to determine whether Notch1 might play a role regulating T-regulatory cells (Tregs) animal RA. Methods: Collagen-induced (CIA) collagen antibody-induced (CAIA) were induced C57BL/6, antisense transgenic (NAS) or DBA1/J mice. We examined pharmacological inhibitors γ-secretase (an enzyme required for activation) antisense-mediated knockdown...
Objective.Although gout is the most common form of inflammatory arthritis, data on prevalence and management are sparse, especially in Korean populations. This study reevaluated recent incidence values people to update findings from our previous 2011.Methods.We used National Health Insurance Service-National Information Database (NHIS-NHID) identify patients diagnosed with South Korea during 2002∼2015.We selected as principal diagnosis or 1st∼4th additional diagnosis.Results.The increased...
Background Most women with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) are diagnosed the disease in their reproductive years, but incidence and prevalence of SLE among childbearing age have not been studied. The objective this study was to estimate Korean age. Methods Women aged 20 44 years were identified from National Health Insurance Service – Information Database (2009-2016), which contain health information approximately 97% population. defined by International Classification Diseases, 10th...
Delamanid is a new anti-TB drug, but few data exist on its use outside clinical trials. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy as well safety and tolerability delamanid-containing regimen for 24 weeks in treatment MDR- XDR-TB.We performed retrospective cohort among patients with MDR/XDR-TB who were treated seven hospitals South Korea.A total 32 MDR-TB, which 6 (18.8%) XDR-TB, included all completed delamanid treatment. Of 19 (59.4%) had positive culture sputum at initiation...
Women with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) are often diagnosed the disease during their reproductive years; however, its incidence and prevalence among women of childbearing age have not been studied. The objective this study was to estimate seropositive (SPRA) Korean age.Women aged 20 44 years SPRA were identified from National Health Insurance Service-National Information Database (2009 2016). defined by International Classification Diseases, 10th revision code, M05. Incidence calculated per...
Takayasu arteritis (TA) is a chronic vasculitis that affects the aortic arch and its primary branches. Ulcerative colitis (UC) an inflammatory bowel disease of unknown etiology. Patients diagnosed with both TA UC have rarely been reported. The pathogenesis uncertain, but cell-mediated mechanisms play important role in diseases, genetic factor thought to effect on coincidence these two diseases. We herein report 38-year-old female who had history optic neuritis. believe this first case...
Reactive oxygen species (ROS) are chemically reactive containing molecules. ROS consist of radical including superoxide anion (O2•-) and hydroxyl (•OH) non-radical such as hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), singlet (O2). generated by mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation, environmental stresses UV or heat exposure, cellular responses to xenobiotics ( Ray et al., 2012 ). Excessive production over antioxidant capacity induces stress which results in harmful effects cell tissue damage. Sufficient...
We aimed to estimate the prevalence of comorbidities and medication use in Korean women with rheumatic diseases (RDs) during their childbearing years.
Polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR) is an inflammatory rheumatic condition characterized by generalized pain and morning stiffness in the shoulders, hip girdle, neck. Since pathogenesis of PMR still uncertain, diagnosis depends on clinical features. There have been several studies regarding radiological tools for PMR. Recent using 18-FDG-PET showed bursitis, synovitis, uptake spinous process asymptomatic large-vessel vasculitis patients. However, there was no report efficacy Korea. Here, we are...
<h3>Background:</h3> Many rheumatic diseases (RDs) predominantly affect women in their reproductive years, and have a significant impact on childbearing, but its burden remains incompletely understood. <h3>Objectives:</h3> The study aimed to identify the prevalence incidence of RDs among Korean childbearing effect comorbidities, medication use, pregnancy rate. <h3>Methods:</h3> From National Health Insurance Service data during 2009-2016, we identified 9,217,139 aged between 20-44 years....
